I was so excited to try this brunch spot! A cozy space tucked in an unassuming area. Upon entry we were greeted by the hostess and seated quickly. I noticed that there was only 1 server for the whole restaurant which caused our service to be a bit delayed but she did a great job nonetheless. The restaurant had a chill vibe with minimal decor and a quiet noise level. Overall I had a great experience and would recommend this brunch spot to anyone!
Food: BYOO with Ham, spinach, peppers, and white cheddar. All ingredients were fresh flavorful. A beautifully prepared omelette that was filling and tasty!

I would recommend this place for a quick stop in for coffee, to get yourself situated, and to have a good talk with front of the house employees.

Title: A Hidden Gem – MudPenny Breakfast Restaurant
I recently had the pleasure of visiting MudPenny for the first time, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience! I had no idea this delightful breakfast spot existed, but now it holds a special place in my heart.
The food was absolutely amazing! I was particularly blown away by the pancakes; they had a unique flavor that I’ve never encountered before – light, fluffy, and incredibly delicious. The sausages, too, were exceptional, boasting a taste all their own that added a lovely twist to my meal.
Everything about my visit was fantastic, from the warm atmosphere to the quality of the food. I can confidently say that MudPenny is now rated number one on my list of breakfast places, and I can't wait to return. If you're looking for a great breakfast experience, I highly recommend checking out MudPenny – you won’t be disappointed!

Fantastic food and great service. The area is a little run down around the restaurant but once you get inside it’s small but esthetic and some of the best food I’ve had just a bit experience

We were so excited to see this was opening in Rockford. Unfortunately that excitement turned into disappointment. While we know this is opening week, being out of your popular menus items (and many of them) at only 5:45 pm on a Saturday night should be embarrassing. In an opening week, I’d expect to have a wait or slow service, but not being out of two appetizers and at least two or more entrees. With two other locations, I would think that forecasting would be a little more accurate when you are trying to make an impression in a new community. That said, we ordered the burrata and subbed the bread for a different type which came burnt and unsliced. Seeing the poor presentation I was a little nervous for what was to come. We ordered the gnocchi as a second choice and the halibut. The gnocchi came dry without the vinaigrette. Honestly it was terrible even after asking for the dressing and I sent at least a quarter to a half back after forcing myself to eat some of it to try not to be hungry. I left hungry and went to Pump House. The halibut for $35 was such a small portion we were baffled. Our bill came to $108 with our son’s plain cheeseburger and fries included in that cost. We enjoy a variety of restaurants Lucy’s, Little Bird, Social Misfits, the Old Mill, Grill One Eleven, Wealthy Street, and the list goes on. I say this to show that we love to dine out at fantastic local restaurants. These places are all exceptional. As a family who will pay whatever we need for amazing food and a night out I would never pay this again for an incredibly subpar experience. All of this to say we won’t be back and I’m not sure how this is going to thrive in Rockford if this is how it starts out.
Went to the Rockford location on opening day and it was great! Paige was our server and super helpful in helping us choose drinks and food. We live 2 blocks away and are super happy about having this dining option downtown!
My Dad was a Culinary Arts professor who was educated at The Culinary Institute of America. He taught me good food. My experience at MudPenny had me wishing I could call him up and tell him all about this place! He knows though! 🙏 Delicious food, perfect beverage, great music (but not to loud). Loved it! You should go!

Protein pancakes had a grilled potatoes taste. Possible cooked on the same griddle as everything. It was ok but not what I expected!

We enjoyed breakfast at MudPenny.
The restaurant is located in the heart of downtown on Cesar Chavez Road.
Off street free parking, handicap accessible.
Our server was very nice and knowledgeable.
A little I expect a side, but it worth the drive if you want to try a different twist on some American traditional food.
