Good food but I ordered a 2 meat 2 side meal for $14 and I ordered double fried chicken and all they gave me was 2 chicken wings. When I could of just ordered 2 chicken wings for $1.60 each on there menu. Very disappointed that the main course was a super small portion.

The interior and exterior is well kept and is very inviting. The young lady working the counter was courteous and professional when taking our order. Now on to the food. I ordered the meatloaf with mash potatoes and green beans. My mom ordered the fried chicken with greens and sweet potatoes. Considering I am one of the best soul food cooks in my family I know good and bad soul food when I taste it. The meatloaf taste like one you heat and serve, not homemade. The green beans taste salty. The mash potatoes are out the box. The collard greens had that bitter taste. When cooking collards you have to cook and season them long enough to drive out that bitter taste. They should try mustard and turnip as their greens option because they are easier to season. The sweet potatoes were good, corn bread was good, the fried chicken was ok. Miller has the best brand in chicken wings. Try them because all other brands taste full of steroids. In conclusion, I’ll return to try something different!

Me and my husband traveled for some downtown Grand Rapids shopping, and decided let’s head to the candied yam. The main location we have accepted the customer service is subpar…the son, and other workers of the owner will stare at you and not properly greet…but we love the soul food we have unfortunately accepted that. We then discover as we are driving to the main location…oh my goodness! Babe look, a candied yam!!! Right there!!! As we were leaving downtown Grand Rapids. We park, exited snd mouths watering as we are in hopes that this location would have a better atmosphere…..we stood at the desk for over 10 minutes, called the stores location…..into which someone’s cell phone rang … not an actual store location phone for the back cooks or someone to hear when a customer is calling the location…not someone’s cell phone? Into which is not kept on their person? We called and said “HELLO” but the back staff continued talking and laughing. Cameras on the outside, and inside of the establishment yet…we weren’t greeted, or helped? We then call the other location to see if they can contact someone to serve us….no answer My husband stated let’s go to the other location….heading there now. Hopefully we get better treatment.

Absolutely delicious! We stopped in on a Tuesday for dinner and were greeted with great service. We got the catfish, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, and mac and it was all amazing! I haven’t found anything so close to family cooking in a restaurant before. We both left clean plates. Will definitely be returning!

We went to the division location. We really enjoyed our food. They let us know when we arrived that the Mac and cheese was currently in the oven so it would be a few extra minutes if we wanted that. Everything we ate was so good. You’d be sleeping on this place if you don’t come here. The food is fabulous. Highly recommend the catfish, yams, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes w/gravy, and chicken. Staff here were very friendly.

I cant rave enought about how exelent the food was. I had a best fried chicken i have ever had in Grand Rapids. My extended family, who dont have a lot of experience with greens and said that they didnt care for them in that past, loved these. Everything was delicious/amazing.

My family loves the Southern Cuisine at the Candied Yam. The catfish is my favorite; I've had it at both locations now, and it's always fresh, nicely seasoned and fried to perfection! The new spacious location on Division Ave., is an ideal venue for a formal or informal event with a casual or informal dress code. Among the many perks was the fantastic ambiance w/ live music and the opportunity to connect with others.
