I used to love the Chop House. So much so that a couple of years before the pandemic I bought $2,000 worth of gift cards (I was trying to help my favorite waitress win the sales contest and I figured gift cards are good forever. Right? Wrong. At least for the Chop House). I used quite a few pre pandemic and received full value. Post pandemic the first time I used a $250 card it was only worth $186 (no, I wasn’t using a half used card. I had the wait staff check and each card was worth exactly $186). Tonight each card was only worth $111. Google tells me some companies charge a “dormancy fee” and I presume this must be why they continue to drop in value. Yes. It has taken me a long time to use them thanks to no longer living in GR and two years of no vaccine and elderly parents whose health I could not risk. But it seems criminal to more than halve the value of a gift card over the course of eight or ten years while doubling your prices over the same time period. To add insult to injury, the dinner was barely edible. It was like the steak was soaked in a salt brine. I tried cutting the top and bottom off but the center was still so salty it actually burned on my lips. My companion and I were splitting the 22oz cowboy steak and ate less than half and didn’t even want the remainder in a take home container. The restaurant did offer to prepare another steak with no salt, but we declined. It would have been wasteful because after salad, the delicious popover, our sides and the few bites of steak we did eat our appetites couldn’t do justice to it. The manager did take my glass of wine off the bill without my asking for any compensation. That was nice (but didn’t make up for an inedible $80 steak). I’m lucky enough to be able to enjoy fine dining on a regular basis and will be able to move past this experience. But I can’t help but think of some couple out enjoying a splurge dinner for a special occasion and ending up with this meal. That would have been a tragedy.
Excellent people and food. Fun, loving vibes. I highly recommend.

Truly a great dining experience. The staff was very attentive and organized. The food was spectacular. Oysters were perfect and fresh. The cowboy ribeye was cooked to perfection and even management checked in on that. Wonderful spot for a meal. Highly recommend.

I get that you must advocate for yourself. But on several occasions at this location I have encountered this. Bartender has no patience for anything or anyone. It has occurred whether I go with a female or male guest. Last night though may have been that camel and his back is definitely broke now. I am sure that the level of restraint that is needed for clients is immense, but frankly you were just rude to my husband. I will be considering our re visits which we do bi weekly. Bad taste has been left and I even slept on my thoughts before posting.
This is where you go in Grand Rapids for the true wine and dine experience. Every dish is worth the price and you’ll never leave dissapionted. If you visit this city and are looking for a great high class experience you must stop by.

My husband and I came here for him to try Beef Wellington and to celebrate our anniversary. I thought it was sweet they had flower petals on the table for us. I did not like how dark it was, but it wasn’t horrible. My husband said the scallops were amazing, the beef in his beef Wellington seemed not to be seasoned and the peanut butter dessert he got was delicious. I enjoy the lamb, a pumpkin martini and the espresso cake! Our waitress was wonderful and very attentive. We also liked the tablet menus that you could tap the item to see a picture and information on the items. Absolutely recommend for anyone questioning trying!

A great place, delicious and tinder cowboy steak, a bit pricy but overall good vibes and great customer experience.

Typical steakhouse. Service and atmosphere were top notch. Food was okay, our appetizers were served cold and lacked creatively and flavor for the price. Glass pour list needs a little love and the sides again lacked flavor and creativity

First time dining at this location, while entertaining clients during a nearby conference. Service was stellar, while I found some of the food and drink underwhelming. Calamari appetizer was delicious and we all enjoyed it. Clients ordered Old Fashions and Spritzers, which they enjoyed. I ordered a Mojito, which was not enjoyable at all. Did not say anything to the staff, as I was entertaining clients. Steaks were prepared well, though the flavor was a little lacking versus other steakhouses on this level (i.e. Bernstein, Gibsons, Charley's, etc.). Sides of mushrooms and potatoes were.on point, as well as the desert, wine, and coffees.
Did not take pictures, as the experience was less than memorable food wise.
