Santa brunch was so fun. Our kids had a great time! The new location is beautiful. So happy we went!
Genuine Scandinavian cuisine which unique in this area. Pickled veggies, great appetizers and fun to share plates. Very clean. Great beer garden in warmer months, modern but still cozy inside in winter. Regional sources, open kitchen and a good bar. All that is great but the staff really takes it up to the top: very kind, welcoming and friendly. Great to see all age groups here.
Second visit here. Both times everything was great. Healthy, delicious, real food. Duck breasts, steak, scrumptious battered veggie plate, yummy fries with dipping sauce, lots of flavor.

Maybe a bit overrated (and overpriced). Everything we ate was tasted good - but the service was very slow, currywurst was mostly fries, the walleye filet was maybe 2 ounces (without indicating on the menu), and the risotto was undercooked.
Not the best experience for the price point.

The Søvengård is an outstanding “hidden gem” in Grand Rapids. I say hidden because it is not on a busy street in the middle of the city, but amongst a residential neighborhood away from downtown Grand Rapids. If there ever was a restaurant that was worth the search or the drive, the Søvengård is it. The Søvengård is a Farm-to-Table restaurant with a seasonal menu that includes some Vegan or Vegan Option dishes. We visited during the 2025 Grand Rapids Vegan Chef Challenge and had the Seitan n Cheeze Sandwich (fantastic flavors and textures in their House-Made Seitan), Orecchiette Pasta (earthy flavors punctuated by pickled Cherry Bomb Peppers). And from their regular menu, we had their comforting Sour Beer Fries and their fresh, vibrant Heirloom Tomato Open-Faced Sandwich. The beautiful interior of the Søvengård is sleek, clean, open and modern, with plenty of space between the tables. There is a biergarten outside that looked so refreshing that we hope to try on a future visit. The service was outstanding; we informed our server that we were not in a hurry and she made sure the food was timed perfectly to match the pace of our dining. I don’t know how crowded it gets during peak times, but when we dined (around 5:00 pm on a Sunday), the restaurant atmosphere was peacefully idyllic. There’s lots of parking, either on the street or in the parking lot of the Resurrection Fellowship Church a few steps away on Valley Ave. There’s even a small sign at the church parking lot welcoming Søvengård patrons. From the setting to the service to the food, the Søvengård is outstanding! We are looking forward to returning and trying the other dishes on their menu! Updated from previous review on 2025-09-30
Had a FANTASTIC time at Søvengård's Oktoberfest Late Night! This review is a little late but I had such a good time. They seem to host monthly events that each have a unique theme with music, competitions/games, and unique drink and food options!
I sampled a few of their beer options as well and was very impressed, their Haus Lager is very refreshing and easy to drink, while they also had a Finnish Farmhouse Ale on tap that had hints of juniper berry and was very unique. I also had to get some Oktoberfest märzen and Weissbiers of course.
I was a big fan of the live polka band as well. It really added a nice touch while not being too loud that I couldn't hear others talk.
Overall, very fun event with excellent food, staff, and ideas. The fact that they focus on fresh local ingredients is the cherry on top. Will absolutely be back.

The new location is cozy and welcoming. It also has a spacious and lovely outdoor patio. We went for brunch with kids and grandkids kids. Between all of us we had the Hash, French Toast, The Scandi and the Patty Melt. They were all good. We will definitely come back.
My group sat out back for brunch on a Sunday. Everything was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was great! The back patio is beautiful, and the servers are so nice. Will definitely be back! I want to try everything!

Bit disappointed with them after having a dinner Saturday night with some friends. This place could be better foodwise overall. I will start with positives like our server was a sweetheart and so accommodating. She was a bartender technically but they gave her a table (us) to handle on top of drinks. She definitely kept the drinking following, which helped our situation considering that we had to wait a while for entrees. Our appetizer was out quick and done very well (totally recommend the tempura vegetables). The entrees felt smaller than usual and weren't done with very much care. I have the Souvlaki, the chicken was a small piece and mostly burned unfortunately. One of my friends had to wait even longer than us due to getting their order wrong, which is totally understandable. But we had already been waiting for 40+ mins for entrees, and they had to wait an extra 15-20 mins. What they got was the Orecchiette pasta dish, which ended up being very soupy and not seasoned well. They obviously rushed it out. We did eat everything as we were there for more than an hour and a half at that point and had 2+ drinks per person. We did tip fairly as our server wasn't at fault but I still felt it needed to say something especially for the price. It was about $149 without tip for 2 people, and we included a 20% tip for our server. Our friend that got their order messed up paid about $80+ just for themselves. I believe they may be having trouble with the food/kitchen consistency. For me, it wasn't worth the price. I hope they can get better and who knows, maybe it was just a tough night for the kitchen? Fingers crossed they get more consistent!

Yeah this truly sucked. The steak was cold and not seasoned, neither were the eggplants. Chicken in souvlaki was burned. The pasta was possibly the worst looking dish ive ever seen, I didn't even know you could look worse than olive garden. Prices are absolutely insane. Do not go here. $130+ for two meals and a few drinks and could have found better flavor at Applebee's LOL
