This is an amazing restaurant with great from scratch food and cocktails!
What an incredible dining experience! Food was exquisite. Atmosphere continental. Service by Spenser was excellent! Definitely a fine dining venue.
We will be back!

The atmosphere and interior design are absolutely gorgeous. The restaurant is both comfortable and cozy, delivering high quality food with a frequently changing menu. Servers are incredibly knowledgable and friendly.

Why did I wait so long to eat here after they reopened?! Food is phenomenal with super fresh hyper-local ingredients and good size portions.
The space is warm and cozy and the perfect place for date night or to get together with friends. Highly recommend, this will definitely be a new addition to our regular rotation!

Expanded their gluten free options from what I remember. Celiac had no issues eating here. All the apps were great.

We will not be going back.
The food was a 2/5 for me and my sister both. The portions were appallingly small for the price and the flavor was not nearly good enough to make up for that. It didn't feel like fancy, small portions as much as it felt like stingy, small portions.
The potato appetizer was 3 half potatoes in a bowl filled with fried potato peels ?. The Farmers Cheese was baked goat cheese ?? with pickled Cauliflower ?, roasted al dente onions and carrots (which were cold), little pieces of toast and some crackers/flatbreads. Finally, the "Ham Sammich" was a 3"x3" 1cm thin piece of pumpernickle with shaved ham and 2 pieces of romaine (to make it look taller). The ham had good flavor, but the size and lack of sides was like watching my sister eat a prison meal.
The menu options were slim. There were no midrange menu items. It was either $12 for "Peppers and Tomatoes" (exactly what it sounds like.) Or $35 for a dinner entree that we had no confidence would be substantial (since the Rainbow Trout portions that my sister had gotten on a previous visit was paltry). If you didn't want "chicken mousse" on your pork belly, then you didn't have another pork dinner option. If you didn't want to pick through bones in a breaded, spatchcocked 1/2 chicken, then you weren't getting chicken for dinner. Etc.
Our server was very friendly, but pretty inattentive (it wasn't busy).
The decor and the plants were very pretty and comfortable.

I mean. Do yourself the biggest favor and eat here as soon as you can. Going to a little slice of Danish hospitality tucked into the outskirts of a busy city like Grand Rapids is a treat for the foodie in you. Respite for all your senses.
Spencer was our server and he killed it. Our group is a cooking club (4 of us) and we were delighted with every bite.
We tried and loved:
Spencer’s drink recommendations
The flatbread with butter
Farmers cheese (the pickled veggies you guys)
The smoked whitefish (wow)
Ham Sammich (wow)
Jerry Berry salad (surprising in the best way)
The DESSERT.
The after dinner drink.
Can’t wait to something new next time.

Hands down the best cocktails in the city. If Alec the bartender is working, ask for him. The ribeye and farm fresh veggies were top notch. So flavorful.

The new location is great! A lot more room and light than their old spot. The drinks were solid, flavorful and unique. The food was perfectly seasoned and delicious. We started with the plowman’s lunch and split the trout and their peppers and tomato plate. We left feeling content and not stuffed. The servers were attentive and helpful. This is a great option if you’re on the west side!

I loved the old location but this new ones is way better! Aaron and Shay (guessing spellings here I apologize in advance to these two) at the bar were fantastic! Super attentive, answered every question me and my partner had and were very friendly. It was great being able to eat at Søvengård again and I can’t wait to go back again and check out their fall menu.
One thing is that I wish they had more full sized dishes for vegetarians as all the big entrees are meat based and I feel a little bad bringing my partner here when they have to spend double on appetizers to make one full meal for themselves.

My wife and I live near the new Sovengard location and have been wanting to try it for a while now. It was worth the wait! We made a reservation for 6:30pm on a Saturday. Was seated right away, and the service was excellent. The atmosphere is beautiful and makes me feel excited to see what’s on the menu. I had the Denver Steak (pictured) and my wife had the White Ragu (not pictured). My steak was beautiful and perfectly cooked, and the mushroom cream was amazing. My wife’s White Ragu was also very good, but it was a tad spicy (not in a bad way, but more as a heads up). I highly recommend checking out Sovengard at their new location. We’ll certainly be back again!
