The Sovengard has been a favorite of ours since moving to GR! Can't wait until their new location opens.

Loved this place - long overdue post! But we really really enjoyed this restaurant! I can't remember what we had but they are pictured - overall just a very cool vibe for one of my favorite cities in Midwest! Go Grand Rapids!

I can't wait for the Sovengard to reopen their new location! Food was really good (will say my friend's meal - meat was a tad dry, but otherwise was very much enjoyed). Drink options on point. Aesthetics/vibe was chill and classy. Staff was very friendly.

Great variety of rotating dishes. Love the atmosphere and design too. Fun place to visit, if you can- they are popular! Have returned five times and will keep coming back.

Fantastic food both times I've been here! So enjoyed the simple yet innovative menu, definitely a good option for something fun and different.

Very fun atmosphere, but a bit overpriced. The first I went in May 2021, I ordered the only vegan entree, and I left feel very hungry after waiting 45 minutes for it and spending a lot. On my second visit in June 2022, there were more vegan options fortunately, but it was still a very expensive meal for what we received.

Truthfully, we don't normally think about Scandanavian cuisine on a regular basis. Sure, we had our brush with it when we were physically in Scandanavia (Sweden & Denmark) and the food was great. Maybe we were inspired by our related trip to Holland, MI when I was searching for a place to meet our cousin for dinner in Grand Rapids, and Sovengard popped up as one of the best (if not the best). Man, we were all blown away by the meal. Probably our favorite item was the chicken liver pate... it was strong start, hardly a gamey smell, very savory and luscious mouth feel. For entrees, we had a grilled Berkshire porkchop (juicy, flavorful) and stew of braised short rib and wild mushrooms (on top of mashed potatoes). Outstanding, hearty, and very filling... if forced, I would pick the stew over the pork chop. The cousin (being a veg) had the mushroom ragu, which was very nice and served alongside a grilled piece of bread. I hope everyone stops in when they reopen at their new location!

The drinks we got here were nice, although a bit pricey, but I ordered a dinner steak here that was complete shoe leather. I sent it back and asked for another one and it came back again the same way! I order my steaks rare/med rare, but this thing came out looking and tasting like it spent 15 minutes in a microwave. Possibly one of the worst restaurant steaks I've ever been served.

so everything was great until my steak came back medium well instead of medium rare. And of course I'm going to send it back because it's a $45 steak. Comes back more cooked before. By this time my boyfriend was done with his dinner. Manager tried to comp steak but my boyfriend was going to eat it and didn't think it was right to get it for free. Here was the issue. I was going to give my boyfriend the steak to take home, and the manager grabbed it and threw it away. I assumed she was just going to comp it since she just took it off the table. I paid for a $45 steak I didn't even get to eat. I gave them 3/5 because the food and drinks were good, but when you spend almost $200 for a meal for 2 people you expect to come out satisfied.

The last time I visited The Sovengard was before Covid and it was wonderful, but upon my return I am pleased to say it was absolutely out of this world.Aside from having top of the line service, we were sat on the beautiful back patio on one of the most perfect days we could have asked for. Ambiance isn’t in short supply, and vibes are overwhelmingly positive. We had the bloody mary and the mimosa for drinks, the Dutch baby for a sweet treat, and a savory shareable finish with The Hearty Woodsperson; a portion fit for a single eater with a large appetite, or for two to be comfortably enjoyed without a food coma.I highly recommend the Sovengard for brunch or dinner. This restaurant breaks away from some of the monotonous trends that plague new age eateries. You won’t be disappointed!

Incredible service! The staff was so accommodating to our bachelorette party. The food was YUMMY! I'd definitely return next time I'm in Grand Rapids!

This review is just for brunch. The was only outdoor seating and I felt like the options on the menu were kind of limited - most items were sandwiches or heavy dishes. I had hoped for a couple of veggie-forward or lighter dishes. Everything we got tasted great, I just wish there was more variety on the menu. Other than the food, the service was superb and I loved the vibe and aesthetic of the restaurant itself! Would love to come try dinner another time.
