Last summer, I visited my brother in Detroit and we ate here one night. It was all so good, we went back the next night! Everything was delicious, from the dill pickle soup to the potato pancakes to the pierogies to the schnitzel, all washed down with an ice cold Żywiec (okay, maybe a few more than one). And Delores' Cheesecake [chef's kiss]. It's impossible to put into words how good it was! I'm tearing up thinking about it. A few months later, I called them to ask if I could buy a whole cheesecake, and my brother picked it up and brought it to Arkansas for our family's Thanksgiving dinner. It was perfect. Cannot wait to go back!

Piergoies just like mom makes. The potato and potato and cheese were excellent! I like them boiled and they came out perfect - a little chewy dough and a flavorful filling. The unique perogies were good but the non traditional wasn't my speed. The borscht was a nice starter too. The atmosphere is simple and intimate. The perogies are fried in lard but vegetarians can choose to have them boiled and won't be disappointed.

This place feels like a piece of Poland (well, I haven’t been to Poland, but I’ve been to central Europe a bunch). The food is so good, it tastes so authentic, the environment is very cozy, price is reasonable. Clearly a local favorite.
The garlic chicken cutlet was so flavorful, so moist and well cooked.
The sausage had a hint of smokiness. Even the mushroom cutlet was really good.
The best were the soups: the beet one was super unique and delicious, the mushroom one was very savory.
Great place to cozy up in the winter when it’s snowing outside.

I grew up in Garfield Heights Ohio, back in the day when it was largely Polish-American. This place really took me back. Great potato pancakes and pierogi, just like my Polish grandmother used to serve me!
Polish Village Café – Hamtramck, Michigan
Tucked away in the charming, off-the-beaten-path town of Hamtramck—just outside Detroit—Polish Village Café is a true hidden gem worth every mile of the short drive. I was in the area for a conference when a local suggested we skip the pricey downtown spots and head here instead. He couldn’t have been more right.
Walking into this cozy basement restaurant felt like stepping into someone’s old family kitchen—warm, welcoming, and filled with the aroma of hearty, home-cooked food. The twelve of us who made the trip were immediately taken by the nostalgic charm and genuine hospitality.
The menu is packed with Polish classics: tender pierogies, perfectly seasoned sausages, flavorful pigs in a blanket, and rich, comforting dill pickle soup. Even the chicken livers—often a tricky dish—were prepared beautifully. Every plate was generous, every flavor authentic, and every bite tasted like it came straight from a grandmother’s stove.
After days of high-cost, high-concept conference meals, Polish Village Café was exactly what we needed—a reminder that comfort food, done right, can feed both the body and the soul. If you find yourself near Detroit, do yourself a favor and make the short trip to Hamtramck. This little Polish gem is an experience you won’t forget.
