It is CLOSED. We were told it will be closed at least for near future. But very nice monastery garden nearby.
Went to tea. It was ok. The place was weird. The grounds were underwhelming. Overall not a good experience.
Lovely place inside and out. The Valentine's dinner was absolutely phenomenal. The food was so flavorful. Service was good. Well worth the price. I'll be back
I have been trying to get someone to communicate to me about a $120 service charge dispute and have been completely ignored for almost a month. I've sent numerous emails, to no avail.
We spent over $600 on a Xmas tea and accidentally tipped ON TOP OF THE ALREADY INCLUDED TIP, bringing my total to over $700!
This feels exponentially egregious from a Monastery-based establishment espousing a strong value system.
Room temperature water for starters. Apps were decent. The soup was more like a gravy that would pair excellent with a roast beef and mashed potatoes dinner. Main corse we had beef Wellington (we think it wasn’t filet maybe roast) and a half a chicken the size of a game hen. Ordered meat medium came out well done. Chicken was dried out and turned to mush when I chewed it. Skin was rubbery and drenched in a gravy to hide the dryness The rice(?) was not warm, and not sure what the vegetables were. The pace is very slow with food coming out. We had 7:30 reservations and didn’t leave till 9:30. The table next to us, we over heard them say there taking there’s home and throwing it away. We regretted going here and want 2 hours back. I would have stopped at White Castle but we waited to long for such fine dining.

I didn’t appreciate seeing the first page of the menu dedicated to why the Orthodox Church was the only true church.
The beautiful tea we expected was just sad. It was sparse and tasted even more terrible than it looked. I wish I could post a photo here of the pathetic food we were served. The service was awful. Our server would rush in, drop something off at our table, and quickly rush away. We tried several times to ask a question, but every time she rushed in already talking, then quickly turned her back and rushed off. The dress code is not enforced, so go ahead and wear a sundress if it’s hot that day. Other ladies were wearing them, no problem. It was in the 80s the day we were there. There was no air conditioning and extremely uncomfortable for those of us who dressed modestly as requested. To top it all off, the room was full of flies that kept bothering our pitiful food.
Nice as always

This place is not messing around with anything. This is a top flight restaurant. It's a place for a special occasion. Take your own bottle of wine if you want as they only serve pop and coffee. The grounds are something to see, so plan on a half hour for that. While we ate peacocks roamed around outside the windows. It's truly a great experience and a gem of a place for Michigan. Go here and experience it. It's a somewhat hidden place in the city.

I am beyond delighted with the delicious and beautiful vegan food at a Christmas tea at Royal Eagle which is on the grounds of St. Sabbas Orthodox Monastary. The napkins, which I loved, were folded by the monks. There is a requirement for modest dress as it is a monastary.

We were excited to dine here and were celebrating my birthday. It is quite expensive, but they advertise fine dining and we decided to splurge. We looked at the reviews and there were many good reviews. We should have paid attention to the poor reviews, they are far more honest and accurate than the positive reviews. I am guessing people struggled with saying anything negative about a nonprofit restaurant/experience. The ambience is quite nice, although they refused to turn on the fireplace on a December evening, because they said it would get too warm. The waitress was very friendly. However, she was the only staff member we saw. She greeted people at the door, served the tables, bussed, the tables and so on. As you can imagine, service was slow. We were there for three hours, I ordered the rosemary leg of lamb and my husband ordered the château Brion. We love good food and love to eat, and anyone that knows me, knows that I never leave my food unfinished. We each were only able to eat about three bites of our entrée, because they were absolutely inedible. I couldn’t even eat more than a couple of bites of the chocolate gingerbread dessert. My lamb looked like something that was pressed from a mold and my husband’s château Breon tasted like vinegar. This was the most disappointing experience we have ever had in a restaurant. I would never recommend this establishment to anyone, and I will never return. We will chalk this experience up to a healthy donation.
