This is my favorite restaurant. Just look. Look at this delectable food. If you don't know what to get, get the pesto pizza (I ask for no tomatoes, personal preference) it is the best thing man has made. I thank the heavens and the Lord above for the chefs, the servers, and especially the pizza. Thank you so much for this experience. We have gone every single time we come for MTU visits.

I was so excited because I came all the way from Minneapolis to go to the Ambassador because I hung out there in college. Came in and saw my cousin who I haven’t seen in many years. I briefly ran over to talk to him and his wife and some random host came over and started berating me very rudely telling me to move and stop talking to my cousin. I explained to him that I would move in a moment that I hadn’t seen my cousin in a very long time and I wanted to say hi, but he just rolled his eyes and told me to get away from the counter. I was so disappointed because the service used to be so much better but these young kids today just don’t care. They just don’t have the values that people did before. I refused to give them my service and left. There are so many kind of ways to express what you’re trying to say rather than screaming or yelling at somebody rudely. Again, what a disappointment. I was so looking forward to it.

Pizza sauce has a very odd flavor, like nutmeg or allspice, I didn’t enjoy.
We were told 30 minutes for a table and gave our phone number and advised we have to be back within 10 minutes of “table is ready text”. There were several others waiting for tables already. We went down the street for a drink at the brewery, and within 10 minutes we received our text. So we wasted our drinks at the brewery to hustle back. The booth we sat at was hard to get to as it’s very narrow in the bar area (that includes a row of bar stools, a line of tables with chairs on both sides, plus booths). It took 50 minutes from our time of order to get a 12” pizza. That’s a very long wait for already having a table! Waiter didn’t stop by very much and I had to wave several times to try to get his attention and only successful once. I didn’t enjoy the pizza sauce as noted earlier it has an odd spice like nutmeg or allspice that over powers the rest of the flavors.

They were busy but our server was perfectly attentive and had a great sense of humor too :)

The food was great, had plenty of flavor and was fresh!

I would recommend the tostada pizza, and the meatloaf sandwich :)

I ordered a Reuben sandwich for $9.29. It had 3 thin layers of reuben and next to no visible sour krout. Almost couldn't tell if reuben was in the sandwich. No rye bread, just standard sub sandwich bread. This was not a classic or standard reuben sandwich. Not even close.

I’ve read how great the pizzas are and maybe it’s my fault for not ordering that instead. My husband and I both had pasta, he had ravioli and I had the spaghetti. I asked for the Caesar side salad as well. I was disappointed that they don’t include a small salad with the meal. When our food arrived, my salad was not a Caesar, it was just a regular salad (lettuce, tomato, onions, celery), I had about 2 tablespoons of sauce on top of my plain spaghetti noodles, my husband had about 4x that for his ravioli. I had to ask for more sauce as it wasn’t even enough to cover any noodles. The sauce and garlic bread were decent. The ravioli was just your average frozen ravioli. When our bill came, I was charged $2.50 for the sauce I asked for (when I should have received it to begin with) and $6.99 for my “Cesar” which was actually a regular salad (listed at $5.99). I guess I just expected better based on other reviews.

I will go back to the Ambo every time I visit Houghton. The service was a bit slow but they were pretty busy. The pizza is worth the wait.

2 fabulous meals and local beers promptly delivered by a delightful server while watching traffic on the harbor. All for $33, including a big tip! What's not to love!

After a very long day at rock hounding Calumet water works beach, driving up to eagle and copper harbor, etc we landed here for a late dinner. Only 2 of us, got a seat in the tiny booth by the bar while other larger parties had to wait. Ham n swiss and club sandwich. Both came on delicious Italian loafs with a pickle and a side of kettle chips. Half the sandwich was plenty, so we have left overs in the fridge.

Place was hopping and very loud, but the tiny front booth was pleasantly not in the midst of the hubbub. Pretty cool vibe with a vintage feeling and awesome art on the ceilings.
