This has become one of my regular spots, and it truly stands out as the only place in the UP Michigan where I have felt such a strong commitment to excellence. It reminds me of home where I was originally from in Asia. Too many restaurants in the U.S. rely on shortcuts or lean heavily on marketing gimmicks and flashy distractions that ultimately compromise food quality. Sky Sushi takes the opposite approach. It is built on culinary discipline and craftsmanship. The chef’s attention to detail and dedication to doing things the right way make this place unique. Over the years, their quality has been consistently excellent, which creates a sense of stability and trust that keeps customers coming back. Whenever I visit Chicago or Las Vegas, I find myself thinking that the quality there does not quite compare. For those of us who appreciate fine craftsmanship, it is clear that every dish here is prepared with genuine care and love.
The sushi is always served with exceptional freshness, with perfectly cooked rice at the right temperature and seasoning, paired with high-quality fish. Their ramen reflects the same discipline and heart. A great bowl of ramen can be judged by its broth and noodles, and here both shine. The broth is made from a slow-simmered bone stock, creating a deep, layered richness and authentic umami that only hours of careful cooking can achieve. The noodles are consistently cooked to the perfect al dente texture. This is worlds apart from mass-produced broths or shortcuts, and the flavor here is genuine and deeply satisfying.
Sky Sushi is not just about healthy or affordable food. It is about culinary discipline and craftsmanship. Like how Starbucks highlights perfected signature drinks, this restaurant could lean into guiding guests toward signature creations that showcase its strengths. Personally, I would gladly pay more for this level of excellence, because true quality and care are what make this place a destination worth returning to, especially in winter.
I am also very excited to see that they are expanding their space. If I were to bring a date, this would be one of the first places I would choose. It is a perfect spot to spend the evening enjoying outstanding food and warm hospitality. Highly highly recommend!!!

The food was great! The miso soup was really well done, nice flavor and the Godzilla roll was great as well! It's a small little shop that reminds me of the ones in the northern prefectures - except they would have cats wandering around the place lol. If you're looking for a small place to get some sashimi, rolls, or rice dishes, this is the place. Reminded me so much of Iwate. Thank you guys 🫶🏼

Ramen was delicious sushi was warm while which was a turn off for my wife and I but our daughter didn't mind. A bit pricy for what it was 3 people 100 dollars and we didn't order any specialty rolls. All basic two bubba tea 3 standard rolls and 2 bowels of ramen. Also the policy of demanding a 10% tip or you will add it to my card is not acceptable. It's your job as a business to give your employees a fair wage not mine, gradutiy is earned and is a bonus not a means to supplement their income!

I've been coming into town Houghton/ Calumet annually to visit family for 34 years. It's nice that the area has continued to add more interesting places and options to dine, etc. My 17-year-old daughter and I were strolling and shopping in downtown Houghton and noticed the cute outdoor patio at Sky and then noticed it was sushi. We decided to pop in for an afternoon snack. The young staff were welcoming and friendly and the food was good. I also ordered the salad, and it was larger than most sushi shop salads and not made of only iceberg lettuce, thankfully. It was mixed greens and tomato and an amazing dressing, and it was on the larger side for a side salad. Highly recommend. My daughter's and my sushi rolls were good... just two standard rolls for a snack. She had a simple California roll, and I had a spicy tuna roll with avocado added. The one thing they didn't have when asked was low sodium soy sauce but not a deal breaker at all. The ambiance is a bit unimpressive; the dining room is a bit quaint, which is okay, but it feels old. Prices were very reasonable. Altogether, we would definitely try Sky again!

Lovely place, great service. The sashimi is so fresh and I personally love the tuna seaweed salad, unagi maki, and the poke bowls. Phenomenal quality.
I ordered a couple of rolls, both were very tasty. The prices are reasonable. I only wish they had Sake / Wine. I would go back again next time I'm in town.
