Lousy experience. Pulled off of I 94 to taste Jackson’s alleged number one Coney Island. Not sure how they garnered so many upbeat reviews. I love a good coney dog. The two that I got after 20 minute wait from ordering at carryout absolutely failed the test. I can appreciate an old-school- divey place; but I feel the Virginia falls under decaying and musty smelling (near front door cash register area). The lady preparing a tray of dogs at the grill literally coughed twice over the food while each hand was occupied with chores food prep chores. I believe the various condiment and topping containers were the direct target, better to share with ALL food consumers in one hack spasm. She obviously thought nothing about it. Gross. . . .Lafayette and American in downtown Detroit are great. Fort Wayne Coney Island in Indiana is great. Virginia Coney Island… never again.

Saw the reviews and spoke with the locals and this is where they told me to go for an authentic Jackson style coney. Soft bun, hotdog with a snap the right hit of mustard covered with finely chopped coney meat and a lot of finely cut onions.It’s not a Lafayette coney or Flint. It has its own flare and was very good.Booth and bar seating. Interior is dated with a throw back diner atmosphere. Spunky servers and friendly staff. They have limited hours and do accept credit cards for payments. NO TIPS can be put on the card. CASH TIPS only. I even got one of their VCI coney kits to take home to the family. I would recommend.* CLOSED 12/23/23 to 01/08/24 for the holidays. *Parking: Limited street parking. Small lot behind for parking.

Very solid Jackson style Coney dog . Everything tasted super fresh. Soft bun, freshly grilled dog and steaming hot Coney meat. They go heavy on the onions here so if you love your Jackson coneys loaded up with onions this is your place. Service is friendly and quick with getting your order out. Building/atmosphere could use a little work but overall it's what you expect for a hole in the wall Coney shop. I love that they give a discount to first responders.
