Jacob our waiter was the worst. Although we were visiting and very tired he acted as if we couldn't afford our dinner or had no right being here eating. We tip according to all above so if tip reflects that so be it. We will be back the fodd us delicious and the atmosphere is quaint. A bit loud but nice. Next time make sure you treat all as equals when in the service industry.

Absolutely the best mushroom soup I have ever had. The flourless chocolate cake is amazing too.

It's lovely to be back in Kalamazoo visiting the family, and it's comforting to see the food here is just as delightful as it used to be! That said, the service was a bit on the slow side, especially considering the rather steep prices these days.

This was my third time at Martells and per usual, the mushroom soup was AMAZING. However, this was the first time I ordered the risotto and was extremely disappointed… it was extremely bland and tasted like a bowl of plane white rice. Someone else at our table also got the risotto and it was completely cold. :(

Good food with lots of choices. Our wait between drinks, appetizers and entree was a little longer than I would have liked. However it was a busy Friday night.

My wife had her class reunion here. It was SOOO LOUD!! They need to install sound deadening panels. Couldn't hardly hear the person next to us.
Food was good. We had steak and salmon with mashed potatoes and asparagus. I've had better, but it was good. Ice cream and brownie for desert was also good.
Service was slow. Food was a long time in coming. Was delay after salad before main dish too.
I would not recommend this for any kind of meeting. Is probably good for just a night out for two or four, but not for a larger group.

We have known this place since it was called the „Black Swan“ many years ago and were again not disappointed this time. The location, tucked away in the upscale Parkview neighborhood near WMU south campus is precious with romantic views of a large pond. We had their signature mushroom soup ( reminiscent of the one at Herman‘s in Cadillac, sadly now closed ) which was excellent. The whitefish dinner and creme brûlée can also be recommended. Kiera was an attentive, professional, charming server. All in all a very pleasant experience. It is grossly underrated compared to all the craft beer pubs downtown.

This was our first visit to Martells. We were celebrating our 57th Anniversary and were looking for a slow, luxurious dinner in a beautiful setting. We were not disappointed. It was easy to make a reservation for an inside table. The evening temps were pleasant, and all the outdoor tables were filled. We were seated at a perfect little table for two in the corner with windows all around and overlooking the pond and fountain. Sweet! Our server, Jacob, was friendly and knowledgeable and helped us sort through our choices. We had been reading the menus online, but the current menu was a bit different. We were somewhat disappointed that the Baked Brie was no longer offered, but the whipped goat cheese with a lemon garlic drizzle and almonds was a fantastic alternative. We had the whitefish and shrimp Campellini and were happy with our choices. We finished with a creme brulee and a pair of large cannolis. To round out the evening, we enjoyed a lovely port wine that Jacob found for us in consultation with the bar staff. The manager stopped by to say hello, and we had a nice chat with him. We were hoping for a special night and Martells delivered. When dining there, be sure to let your waiter know what kind of evening you want, and you will have it!

We went as a couple of four, with two tabs. We ordered at the kiosk. We let them know we were at the same table, and they said no problem. We got three of our four drinks. After 15 minutes of waiting, I went and asked the woman who took the order about the fourth drink. Oops! Her bad. In the meantime, while I was asking about my drink, our companions got their salads. We waited another 15 minutes with no salads. I went back up. I was assured our salads would come. After waiting another 15 minutes, our salads did come and then five minutes later, our pizza. Our friends pizza did not come until after hours. If a restaurant is going to have you go up and order at a kiosk/ bar, the timing of food delivery is important when you’re in a group of four- wasn’t a big group. Also the salads were quite basic as far as the Caesars, unlike what we usually get inside. The pizza was good. The timing was terrible with everything. I think there were at least 4 to 5 servers standing waiting for food delivery when perhaps it would be better to use them as service staff. I was very disappointed in Martell’s tonight. It’s a lovely space outdoors. It needs to be run better. Other tables never got their salads….

This is a hidden Kalamazoo gem near a scenic pond that is perfect for a romantic getaway. The service and food were excellent. The carpaccio is mouth watering, the beet salad is refreshing and the orecchiette was seasoned perfectly. Definitely will come back for another memorable meal!

Amazing ambiance and facility….too bad they can’t back it up with both the menu and the service. Started when I made the reservation, I was told a manger would call me back right away to set it up but I needed to call back the next day. The menu is average at best and doesn’t fit the space. Appetizers were expensive and OK. I ordered a burger very specifically medium it was well done. Three in my party had the chicken salad “sandwich” the bread was overcooked and tough and there was very little salad in the bread. Pasta was acceptable but under seasoned. For the money I expected better

I wanted to take my husband out for a special occasion. I had planned this for some time. We arrived to find a sign on the door saying the place was completely closed today for a 'private event'. No where was this mentioned - not on Google (owners can do updates ) not on their website. This is extremely rude. We stayed in the parking lot for awhile looking for another place to go and saw car after car come in, read the sign and leave. You lost many customers today and due to your lack of care for the general public. By not posting this at least a week in advance you've lost some of these customers permanently. I hope your private event was worth it.

Very nice place for the price the food was perfect. Just wish they had a blackened chicken Alfredo dinner.

Had a great experience here! The ambience was lovely, and the overall vibe made for an enjoyable visit. As a vegetarian, I was happy to find a few standout options on the menu. I asked for the crispy Brussels sprouts to be made vegetarian, and they turned out pretty good. The star of the meal, though, was the risotto—absolutely delicious and easily my favorite!
