Our party of 4 had the pleasure of visiting Northern Latitudes Distillery for the first time. Our experience was great from the moment we arrived until we departed.
You enter into the store room and were immediately greeted by a friendly team member that guided us thru what to expect and what to do. We decided to start with a complimentary tasting then stayed for cocktails.
The tasting was so fun! Following the tasting we found a cozy spot to sit and enjoy the great atmosphere.
It’s obvious the Northern Latitudes staff adore their jobs and truly care about the customers experience.
We are already planning our next visit!

If you haven’t been here you need to check it out. The place is phenomenal, not just the drinks but the staff and atmosphere as well.

We were amazed at how many different spirits this distillery offered. As a Scandinavian I had to try the bourbon barrel aged aquavit and it was quite simply the best aquavit I’ve tasted. We enjoyed several different bourbons and ryes offered by our salesperson Char and bartender Dave. Dave did an especially great job explaining the nuances between the various bourbons. We ended up buying a bottle of Latitudes bourbon: a smooth whiskey with just the right amount of vanilla notes. I’ll be back to try the Mackinac fudge liquor, which the distillery sells straight up as well as in pudding shots. The distillery has a pleasant tasting room and a nice cocktail bar. Will update this review with a photo or two when I return.

I've been to many distilleries in Michigan and this one is at the top of the list in every regard. Both locations are great- downtown is perfect for the Main Street feel and the other spot is very comfortable with plenty of inside and outside seating options. But above all else is the quality of ingredients and the expertise of the people making the cocktails. Dawn is exceptional! I love this place, I'll soon be a familiar face.

I wish there were options for more than 5 stars!! As many other reviews are lengthy - so will mine be! There's a reason - this place was awesome and we want others to know all the plusses! Our story is we were looking for dog friendly in Suttons Bay - NLD has satellite place there, but then I saw if we went just a bit up the road we could go to the main place. SO happy we did. We have a big dog and a little one. We weren't sure where we needed to be with the dogs so hubby went in to ask, we were told "if they are friendly come on in" - they are, so we did. We started on the front porch, where Sharon came out - fussed over the dogs and got to business telling us everything about NLD products and then some. She was AWESOME. When she said that we could have 4 tastes...for free I was floored! These are small tastes - about 2 sips worth to get the flavor notes and such. But still - in the metro Detroit area (where we live) you would be charged for those tastes!
So I was going to go in and get for the 2 of us. And again - we were told to bring the pups in. As we went thru the store all the ladies were fussing over the dogs. Normally our dachshund is the star, but this time it was our big girl and she was loving it (the doxie seemed put out about that - LOL). Dogs behaved, we had our tastes and a good chat with the bartender (I didn't catch his name) about the notes of flavors in each selection. Then had a mixed drink and hit the shop!! I'm just going to say I walked out with my stuff in a box...LOL! I can not say enough nice things about this experience. We were there on 8/24/24.

Not a drinker of distilled spirits but I tried a couple things and they were good (way too strong for me tho). Staff was great and attentive and the selection was outstanding. Don't stop in Leland without stopping here. Fascinating place!

Great beverages indeed! I'm celebrating my wife's birthday and we come across this fine establishment. The selection is superb with tasty flavors for all you connoisseur to enjoy. We had a tasting and had a leave with some bottles ya'll!

TLDR: This place is amazing!

From the tasting experience to the bar to the service to the hospitality, to the energy of the place and the obvious love that the regulars have for the owners Mandy and Mark (who are, by the way, the KINDEST people (and their parents are even kinder!), to the liquor itself, to the gift shop (which I forgot to get a video and picture of, but we bought a few liqueurs that are AMAZING- I’d recommend the chocolate and cherry ones and mix them for a yummy cocktail ? - which, by the way, are all VERY reasonably priced.)

We started at the tasting bar, where they have you fill out a sheet with items you’re interested in trying. It was a very cool experience. We then graduated to the tables where we enjoyed another cocktail as well as some mini shots of bourbon cream with the owner’s parents Dave and Ginny (who also shared their snacks- there is no food offered, but it appears that you can bring your own!)

After spending a bit of time sobering up, we headed to the store where we picked up a couple tasty liqueurs and pickled items (I got some pickled asparagus ?) to bring home.

I’ll be honest and say that this was in May, and it’s now August by the time I’m leaving this review, so there may be some changes since then, but we had a great time and definitely recommended Northern Latitudes!

Hard to tell what’s more impressive here: the superb quality and distinction of the products, or the overwhelmingly welcoming nature of the staff. Really enjoyed ourselves (and didn’t walk out empty handed!)

After hiking the Sleeping Bear Dunes, we stopped for a celebratory cocktail. We did a free tasting of their different spirits- vodka, gin, rum, moonshine, and more. We loved the owners and beverages!

The tasting was fantastic and the cocktails we got afterwards were awesome as well! Would definitely recommend!

This is a MUST VISIT!!! The staff are all amazing… thank you Ms. Kathy and can’t wait to see you again! This place offers so much which you will discover thru free samples.. we left with 7 bottles because everything was so good!! Thank you all see you in a couple of months.. and Mark it nice dancing with you.. see you in a couple of months!!
