Kel is a very unprofessional owner. Refused to pay me my last paycheck, it's been weeks. And now after his business is failing, moving to a new location. Like that'll change anything ❤️

Food is tasteless and the owner is rude and disrespectful

I went to Carrie's Kitchen one time in Lansing and the reason it didn't last is because you have to get some good cooks in there Soul food comes from the heart not food from a can!!!

I've been looking foward to trying Carrie's Kitchen for a while now and it did not disappoint! I had the pot roast with mac and cheese and yams, while my boyfriend had the junk burger. Both the meals were delicious! We also ordered a chicken wrap but we were so full that it ended up being a great lunch for work the next day. The owner was so friendly and easy to get along with, that he made the atmosphere feel like I was right at home! I highly recommend giving this local restaurant a try!

I enjoyed the food. The roast dinner, with white rice, mac & cheese, collard greens, and a chunk of cornbread. Plus an additional side of sweet potatoes. My only complaint was that the collard greens had wayyyy too much salt on them. Compared to the saltiness of the other foods, I assumed that was an honest mistake. So I would definitely try it again. The portions were on point for the price as well. My favorite was the sweet potatoes (and I'm not a fan of sweet potatoes generally), they weren't overly sweet, and reminded me of sweet potato pie, so so good.

This place has false advertising they offer jobs but when you actually don't have any now I refuse to even try their food I hope they go out of business

Did not get what I ordered. I did take out. The interior needs work.

Macaroni was dry and has tin foil in it, banana pudding taste like ink, food was rushed during preparation, don’t recommend eating here

Being a black man I try to support black businesses, but I am disappointed almost every time. I don’t understand why it’s so hard for us as blacks to be professional. Walked in and said hello to the owner (Kel) and he ignored me (Maybe he didn’t hear me, or had something on his mind but he seemed rude). The guy running the cash register was playing on his phone not paying attention, so he didn’t notice me for like 3 minutes until he happened to look up. Took my order and acted like he was doing me a favor and barely spoke (No thank you’s, have a nice day, or anything). Food was mediocre at best, the only thing that was mostly good was the catfish. The greens and macaroni were bland. Prices are too high for the amount you get. I will not be back.

I was super excited to try this restaurant after hearing so many good reviews. Unfortunately, my first experience wasn’t what I expected. There is definitely room for growth and I will try this restaurant again to confirm my experience.

I ordered the pot roast, baked macaroni, white rice and greens. The roast was tender and flavorful but lacked luster. People eat with their eyes first and that big hunk of meat on the bed of rice was not visually appealing. I was also surprised there were no carrots, onion, potato, celery or even some kind of gravy to complement the roast. The rice needed a gravy/sauce or some salt and pepper since it was regular white rice. The baked macaroni wasn’t anything remarkable in my experience. Maybe I had a bad batch, but the noodles were mushy and it didn’t have much flavor. However, I truly enjoyed the greens and cornbread. The greens were tender and flavorful and the cornbread was so soft and delicious. I could simply eat a bowl of greens and cornbread.

Overall, I will be going back to this restaurant to try everything they have to offer. There is definitely room to grow, but I will always support local whenever I can.

No frills atmosphere but the nicest staff and delicious food. Had the catfish, green beans, and black eyed peas. Catfish lightly seasoned and definitely made fresh. Beans and peas were like being invited to the cookout. My companion had the pulled pork and absolutely devoured it. FYI-Came back next day for banana pudding and collard greens. Holy wow... I see why they sell out.
