My friend suggested this place, as she loves Chinese food. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the food portions were very large. Very unique and I would highly recommend it.

If you are craving for Dongbei (Northeastern Chinese) cuisine in Michigan this is the place to go. The food is authentic and delicious, with a variety of dishes to choose from. Some of the highlights are Gong’s spicy cumin rolls (孜然炒花卷), a savory and aromatic snack, Gong’s guo bao pork (锅包肉), a crispy and tender pork dish with a sweet and sour sauce, Chinese glass noodle salad (东北大拉皮), a refreshing and crunchy salad with a spicy dressing, and Northeast China fish tofu and glass noodles stewed in iron pot (铁锅炖活鱼), a hearty and flavorful stew with fresh fish and tofu. With a clean and cozy setting and a decor that stands out the restaurant is a delightful place to dine. It has a small staff: call ahead and reserve a table before you go. This is a hidden gem that you don’t want to miss.

During my recent visit to Chef Gong, I found the culinary offerings to be satisfactory, albeit with a steep price tag. Our meal, consisting of one appetizer and three main courses, totaled $338. Notably, the fish dish, priced at $170, stood out for its cost. While delicious, I must point out that similar dishes at local competitors are available for a more economical range of $60-65.The service presented a contrast of experiences. On one hand, our waitress was amiable and accommodating. However, her uncertainty about the specifics of the fish dish led to an uncomfortable interaction. Upon inquiring for more details, we were confronted rather abruptly by the owner. His approach was discourteous, diminishing the overall dining experience.Another point of concern involves the billing practices. Reflecting on other patrons’ reviews, it appears to be a common practice at this establishment to include a service tip without explicit customer consent. Transparency in billing is crucial for customer trust, and I hope this feedback encourages chef Gong to reassess their approach.

Absolutely the best Chinese food I have had in East Lansing/Lansing. Very friendly and helpful service as well. I will certainly return whenever I am in town!

EXTREMELY expensive. Stopped going because of the prices. Good food though.
Note: Wish I took some of these photos before we ate some of the dish!We had a family meal, and the server was very accommodating. The atmosphere was warm, peaceful, and stunning. I am surprised I never knew of this spot as a Lansing resident; it felt like a hidden gem. There are plenty of items to choose from on the menu, and it is very suitable for vegetarians, too. If you like spicy food, this restaurant has a fantastic selection of spicy dishes. I want to add that I loved the service and cleanliness of the restaurant. Thank you for having us!

Second time going here and the food just as great as last time. Presentation was very nice and everything was seasoned perfectly. There was a burst of flavor in every bite.

This cozy restaurant is the best place to enjoy authentic Dongbei cuisine in Michigan. The menu offers a variety of dishes that are flavorful, hearty, and satisfying. The portions are generous enough to share or take home. Some of the most popular dishes among the customers are Gong's guo bao pork 锅包肉, Gong's spicy cumin rolls 孜然炒花卷, Chinese glass noodle salad 东北大拉皮, and fish tofu and glass noodles stewed in iron pot 铁锅炖活鱼. Be aware that the restaurant has a small staff, so it is advisable to book a table in advance to avoid disappointment. This is a hidden gem that you don't want to miss.
