The kewpee burger with the olive dressing was like a comfortable hug from an old friend. It tasted like I had been growing up with them even though it was my first one. I will think a lot about this hamburger.

Also the service was really kind, and you can tell that the employees here treat their customers like family

We stopped in Lansing on a whim for some lunch. Our family went into Kewpees for some burgers and when we found out about the olive sauce I asked for a sample.

Upon tasking the sample I opted out of the burger despite the owner urging me to be open minded…

We ordered and sat down and not 1 minute later the owner showed up with an original olive burger for us to sample.

Everyone at our table absolutely loved it even tho none of us like olives or even the sight of them!

Highly recommend this place! Not for the food alone but the whole atmosphere was awesome!

Thank you for the great food and memories made!!

We recently stopped by Weston’s Kewpee Sandwich Shop in downtown Lansing as a family of three—two adults and our kid—for the first time, and while it took a bit to get our bearings, the food made it well worth the visit. As a historic spot that’s been slinging burgers since 1923, it has that classic, no-frills vibe. But as newcomers, we felt a little lost when we walked in; no one greeted us or explained the ordering process (which seems to be counter-style). Luckily, a kind regular noticed our confusion and gave us the lowdown, even recommending the King Oliver Olive Burger as a must-try. Shoutout to that stranger for saving the day!
We ordered a solid spread to share: the King Oliver Olive Burger with fries, Parmesan chips, tomato soup, and a grilled cheese for the kid; plus the BBQ burger special and onion rings for the rest of us. The wait for our food was longer than I’d expected—maybe 20-25 minutes on a weekday lunch rush—but everything arrived hot and fresh.
Now, onto the stars of the show: the food. That King Oliver Olive Burger? Phenomenal. The patty is ground in-house, and it’s topped with their famous olive sauce—a creamy, tangy mix of mayo, green olives, and just the right kick that had us all hooked. It’s not your standard burger topping, but it elevates the whole thing to something addictive and unique to Michigan spots like this. I usually go for medium-rare, but burgers here come well-done by default with no customization option, so keep that in mind if you’re picky about doneness. Still, it was juicy enough not to dry out.
The BBQ burger special was smoky and flavorful, a nice contrast to the olive one, and those onion rings? Crispy outside, tender inside—total crowd-pleaser (the kid couldn’t get enough). The fries were solid (crinkle-cut, perfectly salted), and the Parmesan chips added a cheesy, garlicky crunch that we devoured. But the real surprise was the tomato soup and grilled cheese combo: the soup tasted straight-up homemade, rich and packed with fresh tomato flavor, not that watery canned stuff. Paired with the buttery grilled cheese, it felt like ultimate comfort food—perfect for a picky eater.

Classic, old school burger place. Had the olive burger & 🍟 basket. Came out fast & fresh, very delicious. Love that they have the old Kewpee dolls for decorations.

While in Lansing visiting a friend in the hospital, my husband started craving for an olive burger. His memory took him back to his college days at Michigan State. So, I was convinced to try one. I’ve already formed a picture in my head what the taste would be like, but it didn’t match up to my imagination. Instead of the olives mixed in the meat, it was in the sauce which was so, so. What made up for my disappointment was the wait staff and fries. The environment was friendly, clean with lots of space, outside dining, and large size booths.

After a visit to the Michigan State Capitol, we walked over to Kewpee's for a burger and fries for lunch! I had the Olive Burger (recommended by a Capitol security guard!) and he had the daily special Blue Burger. Both were quite tasty!! The fries were too! Just the right amount of crunch. Note that you place your order at the counter and your food is delivered to your table. Everyone was friendly. The place is clean, and has plenty of indoor seating. BTW...Kewpee's in Lansing was established in 1923!

I had heard from everyone around town that I needed to check out Kewpees and get an olive burger. I finally made it in and I was not disappointed. The olive burger was excellent. We had a big group and they were very busy. We had to wait a while but the burger was made fresh and worth the wait.
