My husband and I took my parents to Mitchell's in Lansing for their anniversary a couple months ago and we had an amazing experience. Last week we were trying to decide where to have our girls night out dinner and we chose Mitchell's. The service, food and atmosphere exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be back!
The food quality was underwhelming. My wife couldn't finish her shrimp because they were overcooked, and the crab cake was barely edible, a big letdown for a $40 entrée. While our server kindly offered to escalate the issue, we chose not to pursue it further. I ordered the shrimp and lobster stuffed cod, which was edible but lacked flavor or anything memorable. The mashed potatoes served with it were lacking inspiration. For dessert, my wife had the included chocolate cake with ice cream. The texture of the cake was odd, it had clearly been microwaved until it was piping hot, which made it spongy and unappetizing. We didn't finish it. With the total bill coming in over $100 (including mediocre appetizers), it's hard to justify the cost given the quality.
After sitting us down and giving us menus no one came to provide water or take our order. After 10-15 minutes we got up and left. Only when leaving they said thanks for coming in. All clueless and we said good luck.
Four great meals. Our waitress, Marley, was exceptional.
Wanted to have a nice meal with my wife as we start our holiday break. Came in on a Friday night. Not too busy. Server was nice. Had to wait at least 15 minutes for my drink. My wife got hers within 5 minutes. Just ordered a margarita but they had to look for patron. Got my salad prior to my drink. No offer of fresh ground pepper on salads. Had a dozen oysters at $46 that did not come until after my main course at which time I had to ask where the oyster order was. My wife’s meal was great but the mashed potatoes were cold. Very disappointed for a nice chain like Mitchell’s. Probably why they were dead on a Friday eve. I won’t be back to this location any time soon e soon.
Thank goodness for Mitchell's! I spent several days in Lansing, MI searching for a restaurant with flavor to its food. Mitchell's did not disappoint! The blackened plank salmon was spot on and the service was exceptional. Keep up the good work Mitchell's, you now have a loyal customer!
The food quality has gone way down. It used to be one of my favorite restaurants for seafood but I have been disappointed lately. The prices are high for the quality.
Had King Crab Legs and Ritz Walleye. Both excellent. Have ate at this restaurant many times, and will again!
Service was 'intermittent' and we had to ask for items several times.
The food was good, value based on cost was 'acceptable'.
We were visiting and it was an anniversary dinner.
A number of beers were out on Saturday evening?
If back in town would probably not go out of my way or avoid.
Nice place overall just not 'memorable' to seek out.
Food was very good! Waiter was excellent! Only downside was the asparagus. Three of us got it, and two of us could not eat it. Was tough and stringy.

Excellent food - they were out of the chocolate butter cake but the blueberry cheesecake was delicious. Everything was fabulous. My only stretch would be the service was slow. There were two servers and the drinks were a miss and so was the bill. We had to ask to get beverages - my husband never got asked even after he said he wanted to order something to drink. The gal just jumped in to appetizers. Just a strange start. But the rest was fabulous and so was she. The bills got mixed up at the end but we worked it out. Would come back and recommend.
Not my favorite visit due to timing. Slow wait for drinks, salads brought before appetizers and entrees out right after that. All food on table at once. Decent steak, which was surprising, very good salmon entree.
Had to ask the server twice for water, and he didn't bring bread until we asked. Ordered shrimp cocktail that didn't come, so after the salads I asked him to forget about it and just take it off the bill. He ended up bringing it out pretty much as our entrees were being served, but he did take it off the bill, which helped. It was Mother's Day, and I know things are quite busy so it's somewhat understandable. Normally the service is really good at Mitchell's.
Mother's Day limited menu was not shared or communicated. We received a wrong menu, ready to order and we were told we received the wrong menu and we couldn't order what we actually went to the restaurant to have. We ordered off the limited menu, 20 minutes later (before 5:00PM) they are out of one of the entrees—how can you have a limited menu and be out of something prior to 5:00PM?. We were delivered an appetizer, foil was found in that—brought it to server attention, more so in case it was elsewhere, we ate most prior to finding, told the server it didn't need to be taken off, was anyway. Fine. Entrée's arrived and they were just fine—the shrimp were so over done you could have cooked them half the time and they still would have been cooked to death x3. They were over done in every entree ordered. Then dessert—it was included in the limited menu but arrived frozen so it had to be taken home to finish later.
Excellent service and good food. Limited seating outdoors and out of a few bevs and desserts. Good experience!
