Finding fried vegan donuts can be nearly impossible. Therefore, I have to stop at Strange Matter every time I’m in Lansing. Almost all of their pastries are vegan. My non-vegan friends love their donuts too. They also sell vegan scones and pop tarts. I’ve enjoyed every donut I’ve had from there, but I recommend the blueberry, the Boston cream (pictured) and the sugar cookie (pictured, seasonal). The sugar cookie donut tastes like what Starbucks thinks a sugar cookie tastes like (I mean this positively. It’s one of the best donuts I’ve ever had). Their savory everything donut filled with vegan cream cheese is also amazing. For coffee, they have oat milk and almond milk. I’m not a proficient judge of coffee, but the oat milk sugar cookie latte I got was good. I do wish they had soy milk as an option. Updated from previous review on 2026-01-16

I have been going here for several years and love the coffee. The baked goods are a hit or miss, the scones are usually my go to. I don’t get very good service though. Often I’m ignored for some time and if I get pickup my coffee will sit there while I’m waiting for someone to set it aside for me. I just wish the service was a bit better here and they’d acknowledge their online orders, I try to tip as well but it’s frustrating when you get bad service.

My mocha latte was deliciously frothy, I also got a blueberry frosted donut that was a fun spin on the usual blueberry donut!
More than the food I loved the painted back wall and deeply appreciated the accommodations in the front and restroom (see pictures)
I have never been so impressed by a cafe before!

Since current health change, diet/nutrition has been more tweaked. We was looking for hot tea and came across this Hidden Lansing gem!
Double bonus they have vegan donuts with choices
The hot tea Chamomile was delicious. The pumpkin cheesecake was so delicious I wish I brought one home for later!

Blueberry donuts are scrumptious! They sell out fast though! 😔

Bangos breakfast sandwiches were the BOMB. Coffee was delish too. Love the vegan options! Stopped in while passing through and it was perfect.

Amazing food especially the West End sandwich that’s my go to for work and such a great environment. Gluten free options are amazing too!!!

The place is cozy. Has affordable prices and solid service. I went with a friend and ordered a curry chicken sandwich as well as a strawberry acai refresher.

The curry chicken sandwich was great value with a kinda chicken salad texture with a curry flavor. It was cold chicken, but a warm bun.

The strawberry acai refresher didn't exactly taste like strawberry or acai strongly. I kinda thought it tasted like apple juice.
