I provided Caren with some general guidelines of my vision and she crafted this one of a kind masterpiece that truly captured the essence of my Mother. The cake took our celebration to next level! The flavor profile of the cake was on point, exceeding my expectations. Usually cakes that look this beautiful sacrifice taste and end up being overly sweet or have a flavor profile that is under whelming. This cake was not only gorgeous, but also yummy and delicious. It was literally the perfect dessert! The cake was so good, guests came back for seconds and thirds; some even asked for takeout boxes specifically for a piece of the cake. I hosted an 80th birthday party for my mother in November at a restaurant. I wanted something other than a cake. After a lot of searching, I discovered Artisan Buttercream (formerly known as Caren's Cakery). It was a milestone birthday deserving of something special. Karen markets herself as a custom baker and that's the absolute truth! Aside from seeing her work, I was drawn to her business because she's "by appointment only." Someone that values time? Sign me up!Karen and I talked about the party, location, and everything in between. Until I started planning the party, I hadn't heard of luxe cupcakes. Once you see them, regular cupcakes are laughable. I ordered a tasting box with a few different flavors. My birthday attendees were all seniors, so I didn't need anything too wild. I'll skip ahead. Who likes to read long reviews besides me?As I ferried the cupcakes to the restaurant, the aroma of buttercream was wafting through the car. Let's talk presentation. It's worth noting that I didn't get a preview and was operating on faith that all would be well. Karen did NOT disappoint. Mom's favorite colors are black and gold. Mom loves slot machines. Karen managed to merge those tidbits into a beautiful presentation. Mom cried when she saw them. Her church family wanted to know where I found them. Everyone happily took advantage of the cupcake holders I bought to take extras home. I would've added more pics, but the guests were too fast. Mom professionally decorated cakes years ago and can be hypercritical of baked goods. These cupcakes? Nothing but praise.To Karen, thank you for making it a great day. Everyone ate, laughed and celebrated my mom. The mission was accomplished. You were a critical piece of the puzzle. The pride that you put into your work is palpable. You are an artisan.
