J. Alexander's Restaurant

Came here tonight, was waiting for a seat at the bar. Never once asked by the bartender if I wanted a drink while standing there for about 10-15 minutes. Older white couple walks in, stands by the bar gets asked and served immediately. I know J Alexander’s has come under fire for being racist in the past, didn’t actually think it was true till tonight.

My cousin ended up with plastic in her devil eggs....destroyed the evening. The staff and managers were more than accommodating

I have been going to J. Alexander since I can remember. The Alex Salad is one of my absolute favorites as well as the spinach dip, the baby back ribs, the burgers, and the carrot cake. I also have to give an honorable mention to the apple martinis. They are top tier. However, over the last few years, I have notice the quality of the food is a hit or miss and the last three times in a row they are a miss. Something about the lettuce in the salad has changed. One time I got an order where they put green lettuce on top and underneath were the hard white parts of the lettuce which made up about 80% of the lettuce. YUK! Another time the lettuce was shredded so finely, it didn’t even give the texture of a salad when you were eating it, again, YUK, and yesterday when I went (12/30/25), they forgot to put croutons on my salad and then when they brought them, while fresh and hot, they were salty enough to kill me. They also gave more of the cheap iceberg or romaine lettuce than the mixed greens which made the salad gross. I also had a bad experience with the baby back ribs about a year ago and have not eaten them again either. Needless to say, I don’t think I will be going back to J’s unless something’s change. They need to use less iceberg/romaine lettuce and use the real mixed greens but more importantly, they lost the consistency in the quality of the food and how it is prepared. One other mention about my 12/30 visit is that my moms burger was super sloppy. Nobody wants a burger on a bun and the bun won’t hold together and the tomatoes are cut so big they slide out the burger. It’s just very disappointing because the ambiance is everything but not enough to keep eating terrible food at high prices.

Not the review you think it’s going to be!My girlfriend and I had dinner there this past Saturday. 7 o’clock reservation and we checked in on time, however by the time 8 o’clock rolled around, we still had not been seated and had saw others come in and be seated while we waited. I checked in with the hostess to see how much longer we would be waiting and explain that we have been waiting an hour past our reservation time. She looked at my name and said that I got lost in the queue. She added my name to the queue immediately, but there had already been five other people waiting in front of us. Nonetheless, they set us within 15 minutes, and I did ask to speak to the manager, Bryce. I explained what happened and that the hostess was even a little snippy with me. Not only did he address the situation with the hostess, but he comped our meal sent us free appetizers and while we were waiting, we had been talking to a couple of women that have also been waiting for a table and they happen to be sat near us And he noticed we have been talking so he even sent them free appetizers. They also gave us a complementary dessert of their delicious carrot cake! The food was great, our server was great, and Bryce went above and beyond to make sure his customers were satisfied with their experience there. We will be returning because of Bryce being so kind and accommodating, and of course, as always, the food is amazing. Great job, Bryce! You are an amazing manager, and we felt more than taken care of for the incident. Lovely evening!

The food was flavorful but the service was incredibly careless and inattentive.
I went there there a week ago with other 3 friends: one of them ordered a glass of wine and she had to ask for it 3 times before it was served to her (after all other drinks were served). Another person in the party has some serious food intolerances and asked if a side dish that came with her meal could be substituted, she was told yes and yet, she was served the wrong side twice after it was brought back. She mentioned her food intolerances since the moment she sat down and how important it was for her to not have certain ingredients in her meal, but after numerous attempts at being served the right side, frustrated, she only ate the portion of the meal that she could eat ending up spending almost $50 for less than half of a meal. Nothing was offered to us to make up for the multiple mistakes and the negligent service. This is supposed to be a high end restaurant, but the service we received wasn't even worth a decrepit fast food chain. Highly disappointed.

I love J's. Thus was my first time at this location. Shakira made it a wonderful time for me. She has excellent service skills and a very positive smile.

My wife, friend, and I came to the restaurant and we had the nicest server ever. Jennifer was seriously 10/10 in her help with choosing the best steak, to making sure we’re okay, and everything in between. When we come back, which we will because the Maui Steak was delicious, we’ll be hoping we get Jennifer as our server again because she was so awesome.

My experience at J. Alexander’s was overwhelmingly positive, especially when it came to the food. We ordered the smoked salmon dip, the Mexico City spinach queso, the Maui steak, the filet mignon, and the Very Best Chocolate Cake. Every dish was exceptional. The salmon dip, which I initially hesitated to try, ended up being the standout—rich, flavorful, and surprisingly addicting. The tortilla chips were served hot and perfectly crisp. Both steaks were cooked to an ideal temperature and required almost no additional seasoning. The quality and execution genuinely tasted homemade, and I have absolutely no complaints about the food.

The interior of the restaurant is warm and inviting, with dim lighting and a beautiful barn-style ceiling that creates a comfortable atmosphere. However, a few aspects of the service and environment fell short. Our server was polite but not very attentive; we did not receive silverware until we asked, and each time she dropped something off, she hurried away before we had the chance to request anything else. It also seemed that larger tables received more of her attention, as she spent noticeably more time interacting with them.

Additionally, the windows in the dining area appear to have a draft coming through the lower seals. You can feel cold air coming in when placing a hand near them, which made the seating area slightly chilly throughout the meal. Addressing this would significantly improve the comfort of the space.

Overall, J. Alexander’s delivers outstanding food and a memorable dining experience. With a bit more attentiveness from the service staff and some maintenance to the seating area, it would easily be a five-star visit.
