You were going to give me a free 3nites stay. Mackinac Insider told me.

My husband and I were here for the luncheon buffet during our visit to the island. The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was breathtaking and the staff was friendly and welcoming. The food choices and selection were excellent. Well worth the price we paid and we loved it all.

I had good and bad experiences here.
The good: The hotel has live entertainment in the bars at night and the performers were excellent. One bar had a dance floor. Overall, I was happy with the service at the hotel, although the concierge was not very helpful. I enjoyed the island, biking and surprisingly the fudge shops.

The bad: The main dining room food was a big disappointment. Some dishes were very good (kale salad, butternut squash ravioli and cauliflower soup and roasted carrots). However, more or the food was disappointing than good. In the processes of cooking 100 of the same dish, food can become industrial like bad catering at a wedding or corporate holiday party. Specifically: The duck entry was completely unpalatable. It was chewy with a bad flavor. We left two plates untouched after the first taste. The salmon was just ok. It was supposed to be served with Michigan cherries, but we only got ONE. The warm beet salad was served cold and was basically just cut up beets. The best entry was the pretzel fried chicken, but it was not good enough to live up to my $120 / person (prix fix) expectations. Desserts were ok, but nothing special. The coffee we ordered with desert was served warm not hot.

Food and drinks: I will repeat my review of the main dining room in the Grand Hotel since it was such a shock:

I have been going to the island for years on my drive to WI. This was the first time I played golf at there jewel golf club. My golf clubs were damaged in transport from the jewel to Mackinaw city. The hotel has been giving me the run around about them submitting a claim to their insurance company for a month now. And now the insurance company finally is communicating with me but it seems they don't want to cover damages.

Pretty expensive and the food wasn’t that great for the price we paid. Overall the cost was just part of the “experience”.

A hotel at the height of its tradition, a true palace with the "Old Fashion" of luxury hotels of the 19th century.
Everything is perfect and in its place, only for tourists who know the first world. Fantastic!!!

It was a great once in a lifetime style experience. The food was excellent and beyond my expectations. Gladly my wife informed me of which piece of silverware to use when. We had the opportunity to have the Red menu.

Scallop was good perfect. I enjoyed the warm flavor that accompanied it.

Garden Vegetable with Lemon Kale Pesto Pesto soup was a solid vegetable soup. I really enjoyed it.

Arugula and Watermelon salad was delicious. With mint for additional green the was an occasional splash of cool against Agave Jalapeño Vinaigrette. The texture counterbalance of the watermelon was a surprise and a delight

Pretzel-Crusted Chicken Breast was good. I was worried a pretzel crust would not pan out but it a nice consistency and size, not too crunchy.

Michigan Cherry Rhubarb Cobbler was a delightful served with coffee. Really a nice top off. It came out warm with a scoop of ice cream.

The highlight of the trip was the amazing breakfast buffet! Which had the best service, thanks to our servers Dane L and Rouel S!

The food was below average and way overpriced, not worth it to eat here at all.

Food was a 5 out of 10 but the experience was magical.

Overpriced average food. Crowded room. Rude customers.

Food & drinks: The lunch buffet had a lot of variety, but the food was average. The best protein was the whitefish, the best appetizer was the caprese skewer. Dessert was pitiful, rice pudding was undercooked, and they didn't offer their ice cream balls until after most people were gone. The roast pork was dry. I can't recommend.

VERY RUDE MAN greeted our large group !!!! we prepaid with no instructions on where to go or what to do. The buffet we had was average in taste nothing that stood out as above ordinary. The service staff was amazing. Rueben and our server Marcell were very professional. Whom ever the gentleman was that was not prepared for the multitude of prepaid groups was, was incredibly rude and incompetent and again unprepared for the several tours of buses that came through and had pre-reservations. He took it out on the guest, even though we all try to have patience, he was obnoxious and rude.Walkability: You could walk everywhere short distances. The hardest walk would probably be to the grand hotel.

Exceptional service that exceeded our expectations. Especially in the main dining room. Onique made sure we had a great experience. "Section 1 by the window" Dwane, Gavin, Roeul, and Glendon were all top notch. Forgive me if I have spelled anyone's name wrong. The food was phenomenal and cannot forget about Elisabeth who made great wine selections. Great hotel, with even better staff!

The buffet was excellent. Hot food hot, cold was cold. All the food was great. Everything I had was amazing. What took a bit was the server coming around for drinks. You get coffee, water, tea or lemonade with the buffet. You would pay more for other beverages.
