Great Turtle Brewery & Distillery

We enjoyed lunch at The Great Turtle Brewery today. Very much so! We have to eat gluten-free, which they were able to accommodate wonderfully with a simple hamburger bun swap, but the best part was our server, MacKenzie! She was terrific! Super attentive, in the best way possible - checked on us appropriately, let us dine without silly interruptions, kept our glasses filled & table free from unused dishes, and was an overall joy! We were super pleased, as she was the best waitress we've had over the couple long weekends on the island in the past month - most servers have disappeared. MacKenzie was fabulous!

Had lunch on porch on 4/22/25. The view and service were great, but that’s where it ends. We ordered the cheeseburger and Caesar salad with chicken. The burger was a pre-pressed frozen well over cooked and so dry with a funky taste that I only ate 1/4 of it. Husband said salad was ok, but chicken also had a funky taste and he didn’t finish it. Thought it would be better with reviews posted.

Omg, the worst dining experience ever. We were told to order immediately before the kitchen closed. We ordered quickly. Food delivered to our table and server said they were closing. I ate my salad in 2 minutes and my friend had to take her food to go. It's not a privilege to have gone to Great Turtle. It's a privilege for the restaurant, hotels, etc to have tourists on the island. So many other beautiful places in the US with better service and less price gauging. Give me a break. One and done for me. They take advantage of tourists here.

Had whitefish, and onion rings instead of french fries. Breading on fish was thick and hard,. Onion rings were so overcooked that al all that was left of them was a burnt onion color inside the very crusty breading. Went on a Monday if that had anything to do with it. Go to Scallywags in mackinaw city for good whitefish. The beer was really good., Twp Bluffs barrel aged amber. Excellent! Don't get the fish and chips.

Food was pretty good, Atmosphere was great as we were seated outside. Most restaurants on the island are very similar so no complaints.

The brisket mac and cheese had good flavor, but was watery. As in, liquid dripped from almost every forkful of noodles. For the price, we expected more cheese, and for the cheese to be abundant. The fish and chips were okay, but the fries were nothing special, just generic mass-produced, battered fries. Fresh-made fries would have been a better option. Overall, the food was good, but not memorable in a positive way. Waitstaff was not attentive. We didn't see our server more than three times: when our order was taken, when our order was delivered to the table, and when they took our payment.

This place is great. Employees are kind, fast service, Had some drinks and a Bavarian pretzel. That pretzel was delicious. If we come back to the island we will stop here

Tried to hop on the ferry at prime time and the line was crazy so we decided to wait it out at the great turtle. We didn’t have any food so I can’t speak to that, we just sat at the bar and had a few beers. The big aft was our favorite among all the ones we tried. The staff was super friendly and attentive, definitely a much better option than waiting in the ferry line!
