Char’s Jerk Chicken & More

Let me tell you something I don’t even leave google reviews but the food I ate today was the best Jamaican food I’ve ever had in my life. I would give the head chef my life savings for those recipes! The cornbread is out of this world. The jerk & curry chicken is impeccable. The lord has truly blessed Ms chef at Chars. Highly recommend. I crave this food every week now! GO NOW DONT WAIT.

definitely not worth $15 a plate for two undercooked chicken wings and some chicken bouillon flavored rice

I am so happy yet so sad that I found this place now but not earlier! I lived in a big city for a long time and the city had lots of Jamaican restaurants so I like to say that I know my Jamaican food ;)

I tried jerk chicken meal and rasta pasta meal and they were both really flavorful and delicious. Everything was well cooked and of course the jerk chicken was tender and juicy. The portion was big especially considering this economy. The sides of cabbage and plantain were delicious too. They were cooked just right - not mushy but on the verge of being soft and chewy with flavors to support the main item. The service was great and the front looked really clean and well taken care of. They had lids and covers on all the trays.

If I could, I would love to go here every day to have something else. Next time, I am planning to try the oxtail!

We ordered the Jamaican Jerk Chicken. Extremely disappointed. It's just very salty with no flavor. You get 2 pieces of chicken over a bed of rice. I don't mind paying for unique food, but this isn't it. Whether or not I've tried Jamaican food (I have), it doesn't matter. The food is not flavorful, which is surprising... I won't be back. I was excited to have a new restaurant open in the mall, but the quality and the portion is not there.
If you're craving for Jamaican food, I recommend GR's Olga's. Super authentic.

The jerk chicken is great. The cornbread, plantains and steamed cabbage are absolutely amazing.

However, I would not reccomend the meatballs. They are not bad, but they just taste like an average boring American meatball.

Don’t believe the bad reviews! Not one! This food is better than anything you’ll get in any restaurant or drive through for HOURS! I drive from Detroit to Lansing and back often and this is our go-to. This was my birthday meal and I eat at RuthChris/EddieV/Dprime/CapitolPrime often. Every. Single. Item. Perfection. They may run low from time to time because they can’t cook it fast enough, it’s that GOOD. I love the rasta pasta, all the chicken, oxtail, the sides, haven’t tried the meatballs because let’s be honest, they stuff the plate so full something would be falling out. It’s cheap skip affordable and it’s homemade by Char herself so you know what you’re getting yourself into. I just drove from the other side of Detroit to her like she’s my mom in the kitchen making dinner and I will do it again for as long as this place is standing which I hope is forever!!!!!

Friendly owner and staff, and even compared to Ann Arbor and other places in MI. Char’s Jamaican food is by far the best. Everything is so flavorful and delicious. Genuine food for the soul and a hidden diamond within the meridian mall.

Damn this place is good!!! I had the curry chicken, macaroni and cheese, cabbage, plantains and corn bread. Even my 3 year old devoured it ! Definitely coming back before I leave town. The tables in front were clean and the service was great!

Very good! I had the jerk chicken meal. It tastes wonderful! The food was seasoned just right. The chicken was falling off the bone tender. Definitely plan to go again and try new dishes.

Have been there twice now, both times getting the taste and see special. Enough food for multiple meals. Everything was great, so flavorful. Excellent customer service as well.
