Came here for dinner with my wife yesterday 😊 I love the sign, it's adorable! I was slightly confused when I saw that it said "Casual fine dining." But once inside I saw exactly what they meant: It's fine dining without feeling boujee šŸ‘šŸ»

Our waitress was wonderful. She was super outgoing and she knew the menu very well (They don't always!). We started with drinks. I got the Shamrock "Shake" (Case sensitive) and my wife got the Endless Summer. The "Shake" was delicious, it really did taste like an alcoholic shamrock shake! And my wife's endless summer lives up to its name, as it's very refreshing and definitely gives off a summer vibe.

Next we got an appetizer. We decided to get the mesquite beef skewer. It comes medium rare, and that's fine because that's the only way high quality beef should. And man was it good! And yes, it actually was medium rare! And the steak itself was nicely seasoned and flavored, yum!! šŸ˜‹

For my entree I got the Whitefish Grenoble. That was darn good! That sauce with the capers is what makes it, but the whitefish itself is cooked well too! My wife got the pork chop. She let me try a bit of it and man, that's a solid pork chop!

And lastly, dessert! And don't worry, I knew ahead of time that this place is known for their desserts! I got the Black bottom pie and my wife got the peanut butter pie. Neither of them disappointed, and they're massive! I usually have a pretty big appetite and I had to bring the rest home! Overall an awesome dinner and we'll be back šŸ‘šŸ»

Not that this restaurant needs another five star review, but I’m leaving one. My husband has celiac disease and we have not found a restaurant in the greater Kalamazoo area that he can safely eat at. Even the ones that take extra precautions have made him incredibly sick. It really just comes down to a lack of knowledge and training for this type of allergen. It’s always a fear to eat out and after hearing so many great things about this restaurant, I decided to give it a try. I actually reached out to the head chef and spoke with him directly, and I could tell that he was incredibly educated on alternative flours to use on certain dishes that were gluten-free and he informed me of his whole routine for avoiding cross-contamination while cooking. My husband was actually a little upset when I made the reservation because he didn’t want to get sick AGAIN, but we thought we’d give it a try.
Because we don’t get to eat out ever, my husband actually ordered two main entrĆ©es while I ordered one just so we could try a couple things on their menu because everything looked so delicious. First, our waitress was phenomenal. So down to earth and helpful and caring and she went above and beyond to make sure my husband understood that he could safely eat in this establishment. Second, the food was to die for. Cooked perfectly, quality ingredients that were fresh and so flavorful. The chef definitely knows how to highlight his ingredients without having to throw a bunch of salt on everything just to satisfy the American palette. It truly was an experience! Lastly, my husband didn’t get sick at all. It was the first time in years he’s been able to walk away from a restaurant feeling satisfied after enjoying a wonderful meal. I booked again for Valentine’s Day and had the same experience. Although it’s a restaurant that’s a treat to eat at, it’s definitely our go to place now.

I'm really grateful for the experience I just had here. The mocktails were really good. I can't have dairy and our server was really sweet about helping me find things on the menu I could have. When it came time for dessert she even brought me out a little something sweet with no dairy in it so I could still have something! That was so kind and I appreciate it so much!

This place is very classy. The food is amazing. The filet mignon was perfect. The dessert menu has a lot of different desserts to choose from (15 or more). Our waitress was helpful and friendly.

This is usually our favorite restaurant, but it seemed like an off night.

The food is delicious and prepared masterfully. The menu selection is ample, and allows each person to find something they enjoy. The atmosphere is pleasant and the restaurant is very comfortable. My main reason for wanting to write a review was the incredible service. Lauren was responsible for our table of 16 people, and I cannot say enough about how wonderful she takes care of her customers. She has a delightful personality, and puts all of her energy and enthusiasm into making guests feel welcome and well attended. At first we were not sure if she is studying acting, but the more we got to know her, the more we realized she is purely authentic, and expresses her vivacious personality in a very genuine and kind way, every single time she speaks to a customer. I asked her to review the amazing desert menu, and she gave what I would describe as the most polished and professional description of every dish, that I have ever heard in my life. She made each dish seem deliciously appealing which left me in awe of how well she knew every detail, and her ability to describe the ingredients and preparation beautifully. Four Roses has a professional desert chef trained in France and it was obvious because their desert menu is truly impressive. What impressed me most, was that during her explanations, there were two dishes that she was not 100% certain of, and she asked me to allow her to check on those and she would get back to me. Once she was done, she disappeared for a moment and then returned and filled me in perfectly on the two items that she had not been sure about. Honestly this was one of the things that impressed me most. She has an amazing attention to detail, and she took it upon herself to make sure my questions were fully answered.

I have been on this earth a long time, and travel the world extensively. I have visited 66 countries and eaten at some very fine restaurants. I told her that she is the best waitress I have ever experienced in my life. And I mean that very sincerely. If I ever return to Plainwell, I will revisit the Four Roses Cafe if only to experience her service again. She made the evening a truly wonderful experience.

Lauren, you are the best of the best!
5 Stars all the way!

Although we have had many fantastic times coming here, following our experience last night, we will not be returning. To begin, our server (middle age black hair woman) was very rude and un-interested with giving us service. The seating is so packed together that we constantly were surrounded by staff standing and talking around our table (within a foot of our table for long periods of time). Because the layout is so tight in certain areas staff was nonstop hitting our chairs and table, it was like playing a game to see if you could eat a bite before getting bumped. The food was decent. The SautĆ©ed Chicken Marsala was very good with a lot of flavor, but the Chili Rubbed Flank Steak w/Gorgonzola Cream & JalapeƱo Relish was disappointing and should only be ordered if you can chew your food for over an hour. Deserts here are always fantastic. I would comeback for only the deserts and Togo since I would not want to ā€œInconvenienceā€ the staff.
I do want to repeat that I have had many great times here with exceptional staff, amazing food, and an amazing vibe, but it appears that many of that staff has since moved on, and in the place of quality is a money grab to charge as much as possible for a overall mediocre meal. I hope to see this place turn back into the restaurant I used to love.

What a nice surprise to find in plainwell! This place puts many "fine dining" establishments in larger area cities to shame.

The wife and I had a great date night. We got the braised beef and the flank steak and both were fantastic!

The staff is very friendly and welcoming with a wonderful atmosphere of warmth and conversation.

Do not forget dessert! The sweets are to die for! If you havent been, I would definitely recommend.

I can’t in good conscience leave a 5 star review - mainly for the fact that after spending $25 on an entree, I left HUNGRY! I ordered the pork bolognese and it was probably only enough pasta to feed a 7 year old. It was only $1 less than the steak dish my husband ordered, and I left far less satisfied. It was delicious, there’s no denying that. But if a restaurant is going to charge $25 for an entree, I feel it’s reasonable to expect that you leave rather satiated and full, and maybe even with leftovers.

It was really good, and I’d love to give it 5 stars. But you’re not supposed to leave dinner feeling hungry enough to eat an entire other meal. I was very disappointed in the amount of food I got for the price we paid. We probably won’t be back for a while, as a $50+ dinner for two is a little too much to pay when you need to go home and still eat more.

This place is busy for a reason. They do take reservations and you can get in line online. Whatever you do, save room for dessert! Even on a busy Valentine’s Day this place was ran smooth and everything was wonderful. Food and service were great and the dessert was to die for… wow!

We visited after a day of skiing and a recommendation from locals at the lodge. This cafe did not disappoint in the slightest!! Every interaction with staff was pleasant and friendly. The food, specifically the ribs and flank steak, were outstanding and now an all time favorite! Our sweet waitress was very attentive and helpful during our dinner service. They were low on one menu item however she was able to still secure it for us, on one of the busiest days! Great price for amazing food, we will absolutely return!

Sarah was amazing. Patient, kind and easily walked us through the lunch and desert menu. I had the Four Roses House Salad + Burger medium rare, onion, jalapeƱo, american cheese, lettuce with sweet potato fries. Wife had the Rainbow Trout, green beans, and capers. Desert was Peanut Butter Pie, Lemon Box Cake, Carrot Cake, and Cheesecake with raspberry glaze. Phenomenal food, superb service and all without reservation on Valentine’s Day for lunch. 10 out of 10 will be coming back for more again soon.
