Sushi Kafe Rochester

I was so surprised by how great this sushi spot was on my first visit! I got two rolls and grilled Gyoza. The Gyoza was even better than anything I’ve had in Metro-Detroit, which I wasn’t expecting. The sushi was also fantastic, each roll packed with fresh, high-quality seafood that was incredibly satisfying. I’m definitely coming back!

I honestly hate even being this person and leaving a review like this, but this experience was bad enough that I feel people should know.
We placed a simple pickup order ahead of time: 10 identical salmon rolls. We arrived exactly at the pickup time we were given, only to be told the order was wrong (they made tuna instead). Instead of apologizing or taking responsibility, staff immediately blamed us and argued that we ordered it that way, even though it was the same order we’ve made for years.
They tried to push us to just take the wrong food. When we politely asked how long the correct order would take, we were told, “when they get to it.” No timeline, no effort to make things right — just attitude and hostility. Being argued with and spoken down to in front of other customers was embarrassing and completely unnecessary.
After waiting about 40 extra minutes, we finally got our food and left. When we got home and opened it, the sushi looked like it had been thrown together — soggy rice, messy rolls, uneven cuts, and overall sloppy quality. After everything that happened, it honestly felt like the food reflected the attitude we were given.
Mistakes happen — everyone understands that. What matters is how a business treats people afterward, and this place showed zero accountability or basic courtesy. Spending your hard-earned money somewhere should not end with feeling embarrassed, frustrated, and disappointed.
There are plenty of sushi options around. I would strongly recommend choosing another one.

Delicious Michigan roll. Delicious picante roll. Delicious Chicken katsu curry. Delicious gyōza.
The staff is really friendly and quick.
We always enjoy meals here. Will keep returning.

I had the Katsudon (chicken) and it turned out even better than I expected. The chicken was juicy and delicious, and the garnish (not sure what it was exactly) and vegetables (carrots & onions) made the rice taste really good when I mixed them into it.

Been coming here forever. Everything has been great and above expectations. We usually get the gyoza grilled, and a picante. Very flavourful. Great atmosphere. Very busy dinner rush on the weekends.

We used to go to another sushi place nearby. Now we switch between as Sushi Kafe offers more spacious seating. The sushi is fresh and good. Could use more mix of sauces for some of the rolls.

Sushi Cafe is a great spot for solid, reliable sushi. The fish is fresh, the rolls are well made, and everything we ordered came out quickly and tasted great. It’s not overly fancy, but it consistently delivers on quality — which is exactly what you want from a neighborhood sushi place.

The menu has a good variety of classic rolls, nigiri, and specialty options without feeling overwhelming. We especially liked the spicy tuna roll and the dragon roll — both were flavorful, with a nice balance of texture and presentation. Prices are reasonable for the quality, and portions are just right.

They are just fantastic; my family has been coming there for years, and they continue to get better. Donna and Brandon are so friendly, and I'm not an expert, but they're the best sushi chefs in the world.

Favorite sushi place in the area ❤️ I usually go for lunch and get the 3 roll special, a good amount of vegan options including the miso soup! If veg, they bring out a cucumber salad but ask for no crab :)
