If you’re looking for a great place to hang out in Downtown Rochester, I highly recommend this place! The atmosphere is super nice, and the drinks and food are absolutely fantastic. The service is also top-notch. Nick is especially very friendly and generous. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

This is a crazy story but May 3rd was my birthday. My girlfriends and I were planning to meet at Saint 1881 to celebrate my day. We were a party of 6. We got there and the sign at the door said ‘CLOSED FOR PRIVATE EVENT’. We’re dressed to the nines, in Derby theme (May 3rd was the Kentucky Derby), and we’re lost as to where to go for plan b. Quickly googled places in the area and found The Hemmingway which seems to match the vibe we’re going for. It was only a short walk from where we all originally planned to meet up. As we walked in, we were pleasantly surprised and relieved, because they’re hosting a Kentucky Derby viewing event 🤣. It’s like WOW!! We were meant to be here! It’s wild! We could’ve ended up in Rochester Chop House but we were all led to The Hemmingway Room, and it was all our first time there and most definitely not the last!
We had a blast!! The owner Nick made my night extra special; and sent our table free shots. Our server was super attentive and accommodating (we have 1 gf that’s pregnant). The food was delicious! The drinks were so pretty and tasty as well. We will return just for the awesome cocktails.
My friends and I were wanting to go to Hemmingways to catch up for the holidays. Not even one minute after setting foot in this bar, the hostess comes up to us and says that we need to leave because there was no space. Unfortunately, we saw a group of older couples walk in after us and got seated right away with no reservation or wait time. I am confident that we were rejected right away because of our younger looking appearances. I will never be going back because of this age discrimination

Great place to go for a night out with friends or mature family. Probably made cocktails are a must. The food is of great quality as well. Prices definitely reflect the quality of craft cocktails. We had a Tropical Eggnog, Maple Bourbon Sour, and a Grinch Drink, which was by far my favorite as it has pistachio cream in it.

The bar was very cute and well decorated but be prepared for a 30+ minute wait for a single round of drinks. We had to cancel a last round of drink due to how long it would take to receive the drinks. We were there for over 2 hours and only received 2 rounds of drinks and that was solely due to the time it took between drinks. If you do go here, order your next drink as soon as you get your first drink.
