Some sad news that Hermann passed away and the bakery is closed. What a class act, it was the perfect bakery that felt like you were in a small town. The best doughnuts, bread, and cookies in Michigan. And though Hermann is gone, the memories, smells, and tastes will linger.

When you walk in you feel like they don't have much. Don't give up when you walk in, after you look for a minute you will see lots of the most delicious baked goods and at bargain prices. Its a cash only establishment and an old school low overhead and no frills atmosphere, but sometimes the old way is the best way.

My family has been regulars at Hermann's for 3 generations. Every time I go in it is like going back to my childhood. With all of the changes in royal oak over the years it is refreshing to have a place that stands by their product and stays true. Don't change a thing! I hope my children can keep up the Hermann's tradition as well! If you haven't tried it you should. This place is truly the gem of royal oak.

Small town bakery with excellent quality and selection.
Been living in Royal Oak for 3 years finally got to go visit the bakery. Got there there was a older woman behind the counter and she was waiting on another older lady they were talking. She already got the things she needed. Was going to pay. I walked around nice space they have. I was there around 1:30 there was not much in the cases. Out of the pictures I didn't see hardly any. Well these women just kept talking like I wasn't there. No acknowledgement to me at all. 2 people had walked in after me and left. Then after 10 minutes or more another lady came out of the back and said I am really sorry you have been waiting so long. I picked out the carrot cake muffin(was so awesome) and the lemon cookie(was ok) .. I love lemon!

Day before yesterday I saw a piece of news on WXYZ Ch. 7, about a wonderful bakery in Royal Oak named “Hermann's Bakeryâ€. So yesterday I thought I should check it out! It's on Main St. between 3rd street and 4th St. I purchased a rye bread, and a bag of onion rolls. Oh man they are so delicious I can't stop making sandwiches. Lady said Fridays are best day to come in. Going in tomorrow to pick up a Challah I ordered! If you like sweets like cookies, cakes, and donuts, this is the place to go get em! Everything is made from scratch right there in the bakery. It's been there since early 1900's. Do yourself a favor and check it out. Kenny.

Awesome old school bakery. Son of the founder still qorks insane hours making everything from scratch (and he's in his 70s). Great variety of VERY affordable treats. Never had anything i didnt like. This isnt gourmet...just real and good. But hurry if you have never been...because it won't be here forever...and i heard when the hardworking owner is done...its done. (We already lost Supperior for the same reason...owners tell me no one wants to work hard enough for it anymore) Thanks for being one of the best places in royal oak!

I went in to buy some pastries for my grandmother and myself (I happen to be vegan) I asked if they had anything that was vegan. The woman behind the counter was very rude to me for even asking if they offered anything. Saying that we are a real bakery and that we will not offer anything. Didn't buy anything because I will not support a business with customer service like that. Would not suggest anyone go there Astoria is across the street and has helpful polite employees.
