Great food. Great service. They say they don’t have WiFi however they do just not for paying customers? it’s 2025 sharing your WiFi won’t hurt.

There's a Redcoat in West Bloomfield and it's great. But this is the original, and there's no equal. The dark setting and red lights. The piedmontese burger with a couple slices of bacon. Sweet potato fries. And a Scotch egg. Throw in a beer and it's pretty much a perfect meal.

Red Coat is a dump. I don’t think they’ve updated the ugly interior, uncomfortable booths or cracked vinyl seats in 20 years. Yet, the Brasserie Burger is so so good. My husband had the Piedmontese burger. We could only eat half of our burgers. Oh, the onion rings are the best in the world. Wait staff is fast and efficient. Yes, it’s pricey, but the is yummy.
Every time I come here, I leave very full and happy. The Brasserie Burger is a favorite, as well as their pot de crème, but my absolute must-have every time is the clam chowder. I always get a pint to take home with me for later. The restaurant itself accurately portrays a tavern atmosphere. If you’re in Royal Oak, definitely give it a try.

This place has gone downhill. Crumbling potholed parking lot, peeling paint on the building. Hot inside, tables crammed together. Burger was dry, overcooked and too expensive. Overwhelmed waitress. Flippant about allergies.

I forgot how much I like this place. Very good burgers. Great Shepard pie. Didn't remember it's more like a microbrewery: no Bud, Miller...

The classic burger with the piedmontese beef is THE best burger I’ve ever had in my life! It’s death row meal good! I’ve ordered it multiple times and it hits every single time. If you enjoy a good burger you must try it!!

It has been years since I've been here. I wish I would have just kept the memory and not gone back. The burger was average at best and for how much it cost I expected the best burger I have ever had. The onion rings were pretty great though.

It's probably been at least 20 years since we stopped at the Redcoat Tavern for their delicious 😋 clam chowder. On the way north on Woodward Avenue, we decided to stop and get a bowl of clam chowder.
However, when we walked inside it was busy and noisy and red, so we decided on a take out order instead.
I am sure, because it is called the Redcoat Tavern, the inside has basically all red bulbs or lamps, so the entire interior of the tavern has a red glow to it.
The take out area we were told was around the corner. When we got there, we found out it was also where the servers pick up their orders. That was the same 20 years ago. However, one of the servers(Natasha) was very pleasant and said can I help you and we said, clam chowder to go. She then stated a pint or a quart, we said a quart. We waited a short time and got our quart of clam chowder and oyster crackers (unfortunately the small bags we got were pretty stale. We also ordered a basket of bread which was very good. All in all the bill was just under $25.00. it would be nice if there was a specific area for take outs rather than in the flow of server traffic.
I know many restaurants are cutting back on serving size or minimizing the ingredients. The same goes for the clam chowder, which you could call potato chowder with a few clams. We remember back when there were clams with every spoonful of the chowder, no more. Even though it was very tasty a few more pieces of clam would be nice.
Even with the stale crackers the clam chowder was still very good as it was 20 years ago less a few pieces of clams.
Even with the not so good crackers and less clams, we still gave a 4-star because of the clam chowder.
I would recommend giving this place a try. Especially the clam chowder😋.

The place was busy when I got in but the staff were kind and very patient. My waiter persuaded me to get the salmon, which was great.

I would avoid ordering take out from here. The fries were extremely soggy and inedible. We asked for mayo on the side of our burger which they ended putting on the burger which in turn made the burger soggy as well. And we also ordered a chopped salad that they did not chop. Which typically wouldn’t be a big deal but they cut all the vegetable into huge pieces, a whole tomato was cut into 4 huge pieces for example. So getting a chopped salad vs how they regularly serve it here makes a huge difference. They also don’t provide utensils. Spending $70 on 3 items here when everything is off / wrong feels like a rip off.
waitress was ok. the cornbeef sandwich was not grill like it says on the menu the bread was toasted, ice berg salad had to many onions on it,onions rings was over cooked..

Very sweet, hard working, and attentive servers/staff! Joe was my server for the night and he was so sweet! He helped with recommendations, answered any questions I had as well. He was very attentive. Made sure to check in on me, and fill drinks often :) The food came out so quick I was surprised! It was all nice and hot with great flavor. As a more traditional american food eater, they didn't have much of that (not that they advertise that they do, but just incase that's something you're looking for)! Serving sizes are definitely generous!!! It's really cool that you can add in practically anything into the mac n cheese because they make it fresh!! I added jalapeños, and it was such a flavorful dish overall! The truffle fries are okay, they have a big amount of flavor so would be best to share (after a couple it's overpowering). One big thing to mention is the big step at the entrance, and not really being able to tell where the entrance even is. I tripped over the step immediately lol. Ambiance was pretty nice inside! Overall would recommend! Price is somewhat high, but you definitely get what you pay for!

I ordered a Cuban sandwich and it came so soggy it was not edible and aside from that it didn't have a good taste anyway. The meat tasted off and looks past its date as do the pickles. The general manager was more interested in making excuses saying that he checked it all himself and knows for a fact it was not wrong. So he's calling us liars. My coworker ordered her burger medium well and it was bloody! This guy thinks we are idiots and it was very obvious by the way he talked to all three of us. Don't go here unless you like rotten soggy food & a manager that thinks his customers are dumb.
