The owner is one of a kind! I didn't get to talk to his wife/owner but I really enjoyed talking to him. I came in specifically for 1 beer and it did not disappoint. He makes sure he has a beer for everyones taste and likes. He cares about the customer! He told me they are known for their peanut butter beers which is what I went there for ironically. Inside is CLEAN! Comfortable bar stools with thick cushions.
Good brewer. Good brewery
Excellent beers. Ed is a great host and brewer
I visited Unexpected Craft Brewing Company yesterday evening and was thoroughly impressed by the experience. Their coffee peanut butter stout was an absolute standout—rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced with bold coffee notes and a creamy peanut butter finish that lingered just right. The raspberry lager was equally delightful, offering a crisp, refreshing taste with a vibrant fruitiness that wasn’t overly sweet. The taproom’s atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a cozy yet modern vibe that made it easy to settle in and enjoy. The owners were incredibly friendly, taking the time to chat with their patrons. Unexpected Craft Brewing is a gem in Oak Park worth checking out for anyone who appreciates unique, well-crafted beers and a welcoming environment. I’ll definitely be back!
This brewery is more than just a place to grab a great beer—it’s a second home. The quality of the brews speaks for itself: fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with passion and precision. Whether you’re into crisp lagers, hoppy IPAs, or something creative and seasonal, there’s always something worth savoring on tap.
What really sets this place apart, though, are the owners— Edward and Martha 💕. I’m lucky to call them friends, and it shows in everything they do—from remembering your name, your history to making every visitor feel like part of the family. Their warmth and dedication create a welcoming atmosphere that keeps you coming back, pint after pint.
If you’re looking for exceptional beer and even better people, this is where you want to be. Cheers to community, craft, and connection.
Excellent beer selection. A real hidden gem for beer lovers
Popped into the neighboring Dog&Pony which has very good lighter beers/sours/etc. but the atmosphere is a little too busy & hangout for kids/families. That's fine and good for them, but my partner and I wanted something a little more relaxed or quiet, and also somewhere with more darker beer choices - porters & stouts. This place delivered on all of it! The peanut butter strawberry porter was the star of the show that day - just delicious. And most of the others were fantastic, too. They had two or 3 varieties of BA on tap and most were great - the Caramel one may have been a bad batch but maybe it just wasn't for me. Also tried the radler on the lighter/lower ABV side and it was delicious as well. They also have some smaller finger foods (taquitos, cheese pizzas, etc.) for snacking and the service is friendly and accommodating. The layout of the space is large and while the entire brewing area is open and visible, it's still separated nicely so it still seems cozy and inviting in the bar area. Lots of seating on long tables or at the bar, and the plants in the back entrance near the restrooms are a very nice touch. Also the cloth tapestry hangings nicely break up the otherwise industrial edge of the space - smartly done.
All in all, we 'Unexpected'ly really enjoyed this place and prefer it to it's neighbor, and we'll definitely be going back soon! :)
Extensive selection of beer with many varieties for every taste. Kitchen was closed so we Door Dashed and ate at the bar.
Great, local brewery.
Awesome new brewery to me! Plenty of room and nice bar. The owner was very nice and even more accommodating!. Finally a brewery that even offered! Stouts on tap or even in a bottle. I always beg breweries to always keep a monster of a barrel aged stout on or in the works! And UcBc came through! As I was able to get a Dark Gobbler sealed in wax! It sounds incredible( BA aged 2 yrs) and the other 3 stouts I tried were absolutely delicious- bigg chocolate and deep coffee notes- hope to get a tshirt that looks like the ucbc logo in the brewery. There is also food available and karaoke on Friday when I went. Definitely worth the stop- especially just for the stouts ? ?

Nice for a quick beer, good selections
Nice place, really good beer's. I will definitely be going back.
#33 in the Metro Detroit Brewery Discovery Tour.
Walked over from a nearby brewery (after the movie finished). I needed food and wanted to try another brewer's offerings.
Met the owner and found that he always has stouts on tap as it is his favorite style. Yes!
I went for a flight of 5, though in all honesty, one was a porter. They all were tasty and to an extent, dry in the finish.
The place is nice, family friendly, open and easily navigated by those in wheelchairs.
Parking in the rear and smooth concrete floor throughout. It's a nice place to relax with a pint or three.
I also ordered a Tania's pizza because one must eat when imbibing. A decent pizza but nothing spectacular. Reminds me of a pasty.
People! When I say that “Unexpected” is the perfect name for this hip, unassuming brewery… it’s no joke. I opted for a flight on the lighter side and seriously could not pick a favorite. They were all amazing (see pic). My husband chose stouts and every one of them knocked it out of the park! Do not sleep on this brewery. It’s laid back with fantastic beer and a chill vibe. Go for the beer and come back for, well, the beer!
