Simply delicious food. You've heard less is more? It's true here. Simple dishes prepared well with generous portions. Friendly, attentive waitstaff.
Quickly seated outdoors and throughout our lunch the service was very good. Menu is a bit small with sandwiches and salads the main features. My wife got the avocado toast and she really enjoyed it. She noted the freshness of the toppings. I ordered the Reuben which comes with fries. The bread was good as was the meat - the only downside was there was essentially no kraut. But overall a solid sandwich and the fries were excellent.
We are in Saugatuck on vacation and have eaten here three times because it simply is the best place we’ve found to eat in Saugatuck. Food is fresh, creative, and so tasty. The Mediterranean couscous salad and Brussel kale Caesar are beyond delicious. The Maui sandwich was superb. Today my hubby got the burger and said it was the best burger he has ever eaten. The wait staff were professional, friendly, and attentive each time we dined there. This is a must try in Saugatuck. In a sea of restaurants serving the same tired menus, Pumpernickels is unique and delicious.
So we’ve had a place in town four years now and every year we pick a restaurant and write a review. This year we decided to pick pumpernickels to write a review. Reason we picked “pumps” is we heard there was a new owner and we wanted to check it out, we could tell something was going on this winter/spring with all the remodeling going on every time we walked by. Dom our server confirmed that there is a new owner and we met her, and she did a great job remodeling this place. My wife wouldn’t stop talking about how much cozier the atmosphere is now. We sat on the covered patio which was a treat and it was fun watching people coming and going in town. Our server Dom was awesome. My non “day drinking “ wife ordered a Diet Coke but gave that to me when she saw the table next to us order 4 “blossoms”. They looked really good and my now day drinking wife loved it ! I had the crab cakes Benedict, yup real crab, real yummy. My wife had the shrimp tacos. She said they were really good. Last thing we did before we left was text some friends in town and tell them they need to try pumps again, and pumps is now in our restaurant rotation.
Absolutely the worst meal we've ever experienced as a world traveler (36 countries). The service was rude and inexperienced. My best advice is to either eat somewhere else or go hungry.
I only rated 3 stars because the portions were small and plates were expensive. It was $17 for an omelette and side of potatoes so I thought there would be more food than there was. However, it tasted amazing and atmosphere was great!!! Note to parents, bathrooms don’t have a changing table.

Best part about this restaurant was service. Food is nothing to brag about. I requested Reuben to be served without Sauerkraut. Edible, but corn beef very dry. Pumpernickel bread outstanding. Would not go back.

Drove 30 minutes to enjoy a meal with our 2 dogs. Since this place is highly regarded as a pet friendly establishment. We waited a polite 2 minutes for someone to come out and greet us. My husband went in to ask for menus and were informed they would not be serving us on the patio. No reason was given. It was a gorgeous 70º Saturday morning.
My husband wanted to grab food to go but I refused to patronize. Good thing I did because by the Google reviews the food is sub par anyway. Don't go here to eat with your pets, unless you call ahead. We enjoyed walking around the town and finally found a delicious meal at MALU.
A charming and quiet gathering place in the historic district of Saugatuck, MI with a variety of drink and menu options that are diverse, fresh and served with a smile. They also have an outdoor patio that is pet-friendly. The service was friendly and welcoming and each person we encountered was polite and provided insightful thoughts on the menu. Local options for beer are available.
Parking: Finding street parking was a challenge, even on a fall weekend. We found a paid lot about a block away.

Avocado Toast was given to us on the wrong bread and “premium” Bloody Mary was missing the advertised extras. To expensive to have this many mistakes

The burger was blah . Pretty sure it was premade/frozen. The pork taco meat was extremely dry and crispy. Only meat, lettuce and a bland cream sauce.

I ordered a side of avocado. They brought processed avocado paste. Everything appeared to me store bought and warmed up at the restaurant. Very low food quality.
