I've ordered from this Chicken Shack restaurant for years and this is by far the worst experience I've had. The potatoes were burnt and hard as a rock and chicken bites were as well. They looked like they were double fried. I don't understand why a cook would consider serving this to a patron. If this isn't something you would eat, you sure shouldn't be serving it this way. Horrible. Will not be eating here again - drive the extra miles to the Romeo Plank store.

I like chicken shack and have been here before but yesterday (05 March 2025) ordered ahead had a few minutes wait to get my food. It was beyond overcooked, stopped here on my way home from work, had hungry kids so wasn't going to bring food back. Spent $50 for a truly AWFUL chicken dinner and went onto their comments section immediately after, no call, no nothing. Potatoes were average, and chicken was so overcooked and dry. Very disappointed and asked for a call because as bad as this meal was I should be offered a refund.

Ordered through doordash. This is the second time ordering from Chicken Shack where my food ended up being stolen. Doordash refuses to give me a refund even though I have video evidence of no driver dropping off my order. I know it's not the restaurants fault my food has been stolen twice by drivers from Doordash, but I still am never ordering from Chicken Shack again. No such thing as coincidences; drivers steal the food, and refunds are refused. Whether its restaurant policy to refuse refunds or Doordashs' policy, this is not how to conduct good business. That's the bottom line. Sorry.

I've eaten at chicken shack for over twenty years and for the most part the food is pretty good but the service has always been its achilles heel. Anyways let me tell you about the Shelby twp location and how bizarro it is to order and get what you use to get for no added fees like cocktail or ranch sauce when you buy the very expensive mushrooms. That doesnt happen at the Shelby twp location also you cannot just phone and place an order its pay in advance on a website or text link which is fine, but there isnt no option to pay any additional fees if you wanted a packet of say cocktail sauce or ranch to dip. Its annoying and disrespectful to be so nickel and dimed. If you want any dip sauces that use to be freely included you have to buy those later at the store on a per item basis. Its just not very good customer service especially at todays prices. Also the chicken is very very very small such that one grown man literally could eat an entire family bucket of chicken and still be hungry. Odd they sell the winged chicken by the weight so when you order say the 30 piece of wings most to all the time you will get a lot more than 30 wings to make up because the chicken is on the small side. But for larger normal chicken piece orders no such luck.
Anyways today when I placed my usual larger and expensive order today broke the camels back and I wont be ordering any more. I can understand ok new management wants to be jerks and greedy but to have to pay again in person after already paying a large sum before hand is just a slap to the face of loyal customers. What next a surcharge for a cup if I order a drink?
Paying nearly 50 dollars for some tiny pieces of chicken is a bad deal and to nickel and dime loyal customers just shows bad business.
There shouldnt be any surcharge for dip sauce for mushroom orders but the new management trained the employees wrong to nickel and dime a person for something that is already factored in the price. I could see if I didnt order the expensive mushrooms being charged if I asked for say some ranch dip sauce to be used on the chicken but I order chicken and mushrooms and they have always included some sauce but nope.
Anyways when you see how tiny the chicken are you will likely agree that they are price gouging
I literally could make what I paid 50 plus dollars easily for ten dollars if not a lot less. But my issue isnt about cost or price or size or lack of size in chicken.
My issue is the broken system that makes a customer have to be nickel and dimed for a few pennies worth of dip sauce that is already factored in the price paid.
Im drawing the line and I hope all customers draw a line so that bad operators and operations get the just desserts their greed has earned.

10/12/24 around 2pm. As I ate this meal I couldn't help but take a couple photos with the intent of circling back to review the WORST chicken tender basket I've EVER had. I paid $27 for this meal (including 15% tip).
It pains me to write this review, considering how Chicken Shack is a local Detroit chain that, once upon a time, was highly regarded (I guess I missed the boat on the good ole days of the real Chicken Shack).
The chicken had the texture of a chewy sponge, and when lightly squeezed between my fingers, grease just streamed out...gross!
I reluctantly ate just 2 of the tenders, wondering as I chewed the rubbery sponge-textured chicken just how much of the fryer oil would end up in my arteries
After deciding I could not stomach another piece of this oil-impregnated poultry, I moved onto the potatoes.
The potatoes, temperature-wise, were on the cold side of tepid; only the potatoes swimming in the melted butter at the bottom of the tray were moderately warm.
It was apparent these potatoes were cooked that morning or maybe even the day before, topped off with an aggregious amount of butter, and microwaved for 30 seconds before being served.
What can I say about the dinner roll? It was the only item in the meal NOT made by Chicken Shack, and was the only thing I ate entirely! Coincidence?
Overall this was poor value, there wasn't much (edible) food for the price. However since I could not tolerate this horrible chicken and cold & stale potatoes, it's hard to say.
A lot of reviewers are mentioning the owner; I don't believe the owner was there when I placed this take-out order, but frankly when it comes to fried chicken I really don't care how nice/friendly the owner is. Check all the boxes of properly fried chicken & tasty sides, and you'll win my business every time. Unfortunately, Chicken Shack fell short and checked NO boxes for me.
To lighten things up I'll end the review with a joke: Why did the chicken cross the road?
So as not to die in vain by the evil deeds of Chicken Shack! ??

I went in to get a pick up order that was ready but the two cashier were literally leaning on the counter watching the cook for about 10 minutes in a store that wasn’t crowded. The cashier then came over after chilling , ask how can I be help and handed me my order which could’ve been done when i initially came in and strode at the counter for 10 minutes right in front of her

Zero work ethic, this place used to be great but after they got bought out it absolutely sucks. After an online order, I waited 25 minutes past the delivery time and the food still sucked. F this place.

I had a catering order for my daughter’s grad party. The new owner of this place is awesome! I walked in and out in five minutes. The food was fresh, hot, and ready for me when I arrived. I had a few other dishes for the party that I made but it was very obvious that the chicken and potatoes was the fan favorite. Thank you Dan and all of the employees for making this so convenient and easy for me!

Ordered dinner from here, got home and realized there was mold all over the dinner rolls. Clear as day. Called to let them know and the girl who answers the phone goes "well what do you want me to do about it?"
Uh, okay. Maybe train your employees better in customer service skills?
Chicken was good though.
