Jay Birds Bar & Grille

The food was good. The steak bites needed more seasoning, and the vegetables were salty. The catfish was good. The pepper steak was on point. My husband said the lamb chops were good, just fatty. Our server was okay; he seemed new. The ladies waiting tables were very attentive, even to our table, and they were not our waitresses. The restaurant was crowded on a Saturday night.

Service was top tier. Our server took great care of us. There wasn't space inside for our party size so thankfully the weather was perfect to sit on their outside patio. Until someone at the table next to us lit a joint, we truly enjoyed the outdoor space. My brother, however, warned me that the food was just meh and I find I will have to agree with him. The protein/meats were good. My problem was with the sides. I got the rice pilaf and green beans and I feel like it was false advertisement. The rice pilaf was just yellow rice. The green beans were canned, although the menu pic showed fresh. Both of them lacked flare or seasoning. I noticed the person we ate with ate all of his catfish but barely touched his sides (potatoes au gratin and corn) as well.

Now my husband got the mashed potatoes and brussels. He raved about them. I grabbed a little of both to take home so hoping when I eat them for lunch tomorrow I'm as impressed with those as he was. Maybe they are the show stoppers?!?

So the final factor is always whether or not it would return and I will say yes, there were several cocktails on the menu I really want to try. And it is conveniently located. I will try what our server recommended, the wings, and just keep it there.

Met a vendor here for lunch. Food was good, restaurant is small and for it to be lunch time they did not have a crowd. Our waitress was very sweet, however we had to flag her down, she was sitting at the counter eating and watching TV on her phone. When she took our order she was on speaker talking to a friend. Never seen that before.

The salmon sliders were amazing. And the Jaybird drink was so good I ordered 2! I will definitely be coming back. Rosco was an amazing server, good job sir 😉

Im a south Louisiana guy, this place is 10/10. I'm only in Detroit a few times per year but I will always eat here. This place is brilliant.

Great food and nice vibe! We came after the Lathrup Village Community Foundation’s 2025 Summer Concert Series. Awesome time.

This place has changed names so many times. From BBQ to small plates. Have an after work event on yesterday Friday 8/1.This restaurant was not ready for the crowd that came forward.. they expected 15 people the got over 45. We try to support black owned. But babe black were the worst. I waited over a hour for a green salad and drink.. no communication was given on the status of your order. One of the worst experiences ever. Southfield needs to monitor reviews.. all they will do is change their names.. food was not seasoned well. Hate to say, that’s why we go elsewhere (white). People. They should always be prepared. Southfield Mayor is aware.

It took 30 minutes after we were seated before the waitress took our order. And then it took another 35 minutes after we ate to get our bill. Terrible dining experience.

This place is absolutely amazing. I got the
5 piece whole wings w/fries and the fried Brussels sprouts, all on point. When everything came out it was hot and fresh. A very nice drink selection as well, especially the Elijah Craig Old Fashioned, prepared by Ciara, my favorite. This is a staple spot for me and my people.

The service wasn’t good at all, she didn’t ask if I wanted to include the gratuity, she’s just did it, I don’t know, that’s not right for me, also my friend paid with cash and the process fee was included by the way, not happy at all

This is establishment is absolutely terrible. The owner doesn’t care about anything. The husband was very non chalant. The wife was very rude and raised her voice because they didn’t have any ice and we wanted drinks. They are so nasty over there. It was my daughter’s graduation party, it was ruined. Please don’t go here!!!

Wow ! This was an unexpected experience at a great restaurant. The food was fantastic. I had the lamb chops and they were the best chops that I have ever eaten. Sides were very tasty as well.
Just a little loud because a young lady was celebrating her 100th birthday - so I suppose that was justified.

The food was very good and came out super hot! I loved the music and it was not super loud either. Definitely coming back!
