Idle Hour Review

I was really looking forward to trying Idle Hour, but unfortunately, the experience was mixed. When we walked in, we greeted the waitress and asked if it was okay to seat ourselves. She responded with a quick “yes” while walking away, without even making eye contact. It felt unwelcoming, as if our presence was barely acknowledged.

We ordered two cups of coffee, which came to six dollars—a bit steep but fine if the quality and service matched. However, when we requested a stronger pot of coffee, the response was surprisingly dismissive. Instead of simply accommodating or explaining why it might not work, the waitresses spent a good 20 minutes debating with us about it. Despite our experience with industrial coffee brewers, they seemed adamant it wouldn’t be possible. Eventually, they brought us a darker cup of coffee, but only one, explaining that it “didn’t make as much.” When I requested another cup, I was told it might have coffee grounds in it and wasn’t really worth much since there wasn’t much left.

While all of this was happening, the chef actually ran our food out himself, and it was excellent. He even offered me hot sauce, which was a nice touch. I noticed him running food for other tables too, while the two waitresses on the floor seemed preoccupied with watching the coffee pot brew rather than attending to tables.

The entire experience made us feel as though we were a burden simply for requesting something specific with our coffee. The tone felt rude and dismissive, as if asking for a stronger brew was an unreasonable demand. The chef’s attentiveness and the quality of the food were highlights, but unfortunately, the service left us feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. I hope Idle Hour can improve their customer service approach, as a simple request shouldn’t feel like such an ordeal.

The food is simple and always good. Staff is always nice. Service is efficient even when they're busy. I love that breakfast and lunch are served the whole time they're open.

This has to be one of my favorites for breakfast.
Waited about 20 minutes to get a table. Well worth it. We all ate different options for breakfast and great portions and price was very reasonable.

We had breakfast here today for the first time & it was amazing! Great breakfast selection & a very nice atmosphere. Our waitress was very friendly! Our daughter even got an Easter bunny pancake! We will definitely be back.

This is a nice place to eat breakfast and lunch. It's good homestyle food from a "mom and pop" type place. My favorite thing about this place is they grind their coffee beans right there for the freshest coffee. Sometimes the wait for food can be a bit long during busy times which its uncommon, but when it is a long wait it's not to bad. I believe the owner works with the staff. The staff are nice and are nice to converse with. Overall, I'd eat there more frequently if I had the opportunity.
