We went for dinner. This place has gone downhill under this new management. Service was not so good. We were informed of daily specials AFTER we were served our food and only because we asked. Desert was never offered, had to inquire when our bill was presented. One waiter had on a baseball hat that he wore backwards. while serving customers. This is not a sports bar, with sports bar prices. I was waiting for him to break into a rap song/dance. I can not recommend this place.

Onion rings excellent, gumbo was one of the best!

Amazing food and service I will definitely come back!

We were there early along with very few others. The appetizer, Millionaire Bacon was good. The shrimp and grits was only warm and sent back. That rarely happens. Just an okay experience for a special dinner.

Lobster bisque, fresh walleye sandwich and steak bites were all delicious!

The walleye sandwich was amazing, as was the whitefish dip! The menu was unique and the cabin vibe was perfect

Live in Traverse City and stopped in for the first time yesterday. Sean, the bartender, was amazing and very personable. The food was top-notch, including the appetizer(steak bites)! Sean suggested the French dip. It did not disappoint, quite literally the best I've ever had. If you're looking for a comfortable atmosphere with great food and drink, North country kitchen and bar is the place.

Some of the best food I have had in a long time in Northern Michigan.

The food was good but too drowned in sauce. Service was great. Leftovers did not sit well.

Cozy cabin-like interior space with bar and fireplace and nice outdoor patio for summer. Was a favorite of ours, then about 3 years ago they decided to change to a Cajun theme. I personally think this was an odd choice for Sutton's Bay, Michigan, but if the food was world class, you could've pulled it off. Problem is, it's far from world class. We only eat here once a year now (monthly before the menu change) just to see if anything has changed for the positive, unfortunately it hasn't.
An example is the walleye almondine. The fish was sauteed in a pan that was not hot enough (odd for a Cajun place right?), so the fish never browned on either side. It looked boiled. It was described as cooked in brown butter. Mine looked like clarified butter without a hint of brown butter flavor, in fact, there was not one spice on the fish, not even a pinch of salt. There were sliced almonds on the fish which were not toasted, but raw, which added little to the overall flavor. The baked potato was hard and could have been prepared the morning before at best. The very cold butter patts would not melt in the potato. The side squash was undercooked and hard. This was a thick skinned winter squash.
The best dish on the menu was the shoestring fries, which were quite good.
Service was very good.
Prices too high for the quality.

Very sorry to say but I don't think we'll be back unless there is a change in the kitchen. There are much better options in Sutton's Bay, not to mention Traverse City.

Had the Prime Rib and Whitefish dinners, with a Ceasar salad to split. I have had these dinners numerous times here over the years, although not since the new owners. The salad tasted like they put the dressing on it and left it in the fridge overnight. The prime rib tasted different (not as good IMO) and the sides were not nearly as good. Salty, mushy corn and bland beans and rice. The whitefish was good, but the salad and sides were lacking flavor/quality. In reply to the owner, we visited Friday Nov. 1 @ 8pm.

So glad we discovered this northern gem! Food was indescribably good. Great atmosphere inside and out. Clean (including bathrooms), well kept and efficiently run with friendly and attractive staff - Morgan and Heather did an awesome job for us! Only regret is that we did not discovered this place long ago. Did I mention the amazing food?!

We came over from fishtown because the restaurant there was too busy. So glad we did. We felt welcomed in to a rustic but elegant eatery. The music was pleasant and the hostess Morgan was friendly. She was also our server and did a fantastic job! The food was delicious. I ordered the brisket burger which was perfectly cooked. I was surprised that the pickles were slightly sweet but the flavor was a compliment to the burger. I can seriously say was the best burger I ever had. My husband ordered the steak bites and said they were tendered and seasoned well other than he did comment they were slightly over salted. He still enjoyed them and said he would order again. We will be back again next time we are in the area. This was a road trip for our 20th anniversary. This was our favorite food stop during the trip .

Dog friendly patio. It was a little cold and they offered to move us to a different location near the patio heaters. We were fine but it was nice of them to care.

Food was delicious and flavorful and service was cheerful and fast. (Could have used more than 2/3 small slices of bacon on a BLT…)
