Been here two times loved the food and the owner is very nice to talk to.
Good people working hard to make a good product. And it seems like they are doing it well.
The Best BBQ We’ve ever had!, a most go to restaurant or take out!, family owned friendly people! Was definitely worth an hour drive and certainly will go back!
Like some of you that might be looking at this, my wife and I were driving thru looking for food. Picked this spot bc I like to support small biz and like good bbq.I normally don’t write reviews, but the food was awful. I mean, literally uneatable. I like bbq and smoked bbq. But this smoke has no flavor it’s just, smoke. The pulled bbq was awful, the fries were halfway cooked half still cold. Not to mention the awful smell in the parking lot.If we were staying in the area longer I’d ask for my $ back. But we’re heading north.Girl at the counter was nice.Like I said I’m not one to write reviews. I’d make it a 1 star but I know that would more seriously damage the ratings for the biz. Hopefully they see this and can make improvements. Hopefully passerby’s will see this and be aware of what to expect.
Currently there is no waitress service, but you can sit inside or take out. Got the pulled pork and Mac and cheese. Delicious, but make sure you get silverware and napkins.
The worst brisket I have ever ate. It was nearly all fat, not cut correctly, and just terrible flavor. I will never waste my money here again.
Was really disappointed by this place, thought we'd be in and out no problem but service took so long, literally watched people come and go at the entrance who didn't even see a waiter, we got lucky ish but the first girl that saw us immediately left the register and sat down for about forty minutes and at the end of the meal she got up and bussed a table with another lady that just came out of nowhere while we got told that they were short staffed. Regardless of being short staffed the food did not taste good, cheap bread that just turned to mush is not designed for a French dip, the meat had a weird taste to it like it was cooked on a surface that just had cleaner on it or was cooked in lighter fluid, not sure how to describe it. Had a clam chowder that had a very fishy taste upfront and had big bits of potatoe in it that should have been cut way smaller and I think I found one piece of clam, I didn't eat much of it after I dug to the bottom to find that it was cold on the bottom and just warm on top, not really good for sea food imo. We had to have waited for about 15 minutes to get three of our five drinks, received two meals before anything else which was weird, my daughter didn't even get her fries until all the rest of us got served. We got plates for our first two meals but then our friends each got to go stuff, it was strange. Needles to say this experience was pretty bad, I'm sure covid hasn't helped the Tawas area but I think four people in a tiny restaurant should be able to serve one table.
Worst place ever! Pulled pork tasted like aluminum foil and charcoal and not like the good kind of wood fire smoke. Everything seemed like it was all made by chef mike (microwaved) even the burger that had nasty cheese on it. This place seems like it should be on kitchen nightmares. Nacho had liquid chz just , stale chips, lettuce that wasn’t shedding, and big chops of tomatoes. Beans straight from the can not even fix up and cold, Mac and chez was alright but hard. Only reason we went there was bc route 23 (who’s bbq is amazing and fresh!) was close on Tuesday and my daughter wanted to go out for her birthday instead of eating at the campsite.
This place hit the spot. If you're in the mood for bbq, this with cure it. The owner was fun to talk with and the wait staff was super nice. I'd go back.
I 100% agree with Jeff P's review. My family and our 2 friends just had basically the same experience. When we got there, we weren't greeted by either of the 2 staff members out front. There was a table of 4 being served/ waited on normal restaurant style, menus at the table drinks in front of them. They told us to just grab a menu to order. I said we'd like to sit in the dining area (we had our 3 year old and 1 year old with us ) they told us to order at the desk then take a seat. So we did. It was only us and the four top. As we were waiting, a lot of people came in the door, weren't waited on and left after 5-10 minutes. (Mind you, not one large group, like 4 small 2 person groups). Our drinks took 10+minutes. Our food came out in waves.. me and my husband got our main dishes... then our friends finally got their drinks. Then my husband's sides came out with mine. Then 5-10 minutes later our friends got their food in to- go containers. ? . Then finally my 3 year old got her food. The food was very cheap tasting, no flavor on a lot of it. My husband and our friend thought the pork tasted very chemically. When our waitress asked how we were doing, I said that we weren't doing great, everything is only OK and that we're disappointed. All she had to say was, "we're short staffed"That may or may not be true but what does that have to do with the flavor of the food?I've worked in restaurants for a long time and have been short staffed, so I understand that things are not only the servers fault, but one server/ staff member was literally sitting at a table in the dining room for 20-30 minutes on her phone. Soo...??? I don't know, but I will not be going back.Dine at your own risk.

My wife and I have driven by a thousand times, we should've driven by again today. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:45, they close at 7.We walked in and the girl at the register looked up and said the menu is here on the desk, and then walked away, ten minutes later she took our order, they were out of potatoes, fries and brisket, we paid thirty dollars for a rack of ribs, then she just left, we went into the dining room and waited another 22 minutes at a dirty table. They came out and had our order in a to go bag and said their not serving in the dining room anymore, we looked around at a full room and were stunned, my wife stated they didn't tell us the dining room was closed and we were told next time when you walk in if you order at the register it is for take out, I explained the girl at the register just told us where the menu was and left us, we left with our bag. Once in the car we decided to go to the park and eat, there were no napkins, plates or silverware in the bags. We just drove home an hour away.Once home, we had to reheat the meal figuring maybe the amazing food was worth the terrible service we just had - wrong! The ribs were so smoky my wife choked and hardly ate any of them, she had to wipe the BBQ sauce off as it had a no taste /chemical taste to it, I have a stronger stomach and just ate thru the taste, I found them very plain and basically just filled the stomach. Macaroni and cheese was absolutely flavorless and the coleslaw tasted like cabbage dunked in mayonnaise, to boot they didn't put in the rolls.Superbly disgusted by our choice to go to the boneyard BBQ tonight, we had the highest hopes and to be honest hate writing bad reviews of restaurants especially locally and family owned, but the service and food were so below the bar it needed to be known to any readers searching for a restaurant in Tawas. The lost thirty bucks for tonight's escapade was nothing compared to the service and food disappointment we received.
We ordered and they said 20 mins. We got there 22 mins after we ordered and we sat there for 30 and they finally brought it out and it was cold. And some of the stuff was Missing. Would not recommend.
Really over the top pulled pork sandwich.Very large portion. Side dishes were great as well, especially potato salad and Mac and cheese. A must stop and eat restaurant.
Been by this place 1000 times in the last couple years and never stop. Stop in tonight was pleasantly surprised although I think he’s using ash wood for the smoke which can be kind of strong but not bad.
The meat was way over smoked. When i would burp, it felt like there was a smoker in my stomach after eating it. Wet had the pulled pork only. Perhaps we got older stuff? Also I'm not quite sure why the cold slaw is raved about. It tasted like just mayo and chopped cabbage. I really wanted to like this place, but it was rather subpar.
