The food was alright, but unfortunately that wasn't the main takeaway from my visit. I saw a male server or cook-I'm not sure which-leave the restroom while still wearing his apron.
In a restaurant setting, health and sanitation should always be a top priority. I've worked at a few, I would know. Seeing that made me uncomfortable and unfortunately, I don't feel I could return after that experience.

Modes is quintessential nostalgic Traverse City! Kathy was great and had our table ready for us, Olivia was our server and she handled our 9 top with skill and charm. Our party all had a great time.

The atmosphere - 80s steakhouse vibe.

The service - sat at the bar and was good. Was there in the afternoon, so no one was there and wasn’t busy.

The food - here we go. This was my second time here, and had the same experience, so they’re consistent. Flavorless. Bland. No crust on my prime rib. Half fat. For the most expensive plate they have, I’ll pass. The Salad? A wedge of $2.00 head of lettuce.

For a steakhouse - they nail it. Except the food.

Two times with the same results. I’ll spend my money elsewhere on a steak .

Service and setting outstanding. Steak cuts were awesome. Shortfall was the cooking. Ordered my 24oz porter medium rare with a sear… came out with grill marks, not a sear, almost George Foreman looking. Wife had the prime rib 16 oz. Both were ordered and to the table in less than 5 minutes…we eat carnivore 365. I grill daily. The chief really needs a lesson on reverse searing, butter drenching ect. Someone else mentioned Ponderosa, pretty accurate. Flavorless and also lacked the requested quick sear.

The garlic toast was cheap and not seasoned properly. There are so many bread companies in the area, grab some local made. The other food was perfect and service was top notch. Thank you Modes!

We stopped in do to the unique look of the outside. And once we walked in it is a nice little spot with a kind of unique style of its own. The hostess was very nice. The waitress was kind of non wanting to interact much. We started off with some drinks and appetizer. We went with jalapeño cheese sticks. They were really good. I ordered a bullet rye with sprite and wife went with a Stella and it came with a Stella glass with gold rim. She insists it makes it taste better. I ended up with a Old Fashioned by mistake but was really good. Lol. Wife went with duck with rice. She liked it but wants people to know it is a bone in duck. I went with the surf and turf with lobster and filet mignon baked potato and salad. Oh man was it good. Cooked perfect.

Always a wonderful meal at Mode's. It was Men's Night downtown and the place was busy. We were seated after a short wait. Our server was fantastic and attentive. We split the duck, which was fabulous! The cherry cheesecake for dessert was also exceptional. A wonderful place for adult company!

We love the service here, the women who run this place are top notch, they always make you feel welcome! The prime rib is my go to with the wedge salad (the blue cheese dressing is the best!)
