Let's see what can I tell you about this place. If you love fish this the place to be hands down, yes the real deal. Trust me, before you leave you will stop in one more time for the road. Enjoy my friends stay hungry.
Tasty, fresh fish! Conveniently located downtown. Wish they served alcohol. Would definitely recommend.
I cannot emphasize enough how good the food was! Had shrimp the first night and returned for the whitefish the next day! The guys there are courteous, kind, and cook amazing!
Our favorite place to get seafood up there. Went there twice in a couple days while on vacation. Best fish around!!!!
My family tried this fish and chips restaurant after two coworkers raved about the quality of the fish. They were correct- the whitefish was excellent. The chowder was very tasty, and a generous portion for the large size. I was a little less impressed with the staying power of the food for takeout, as it got cold/soggy very fast (quite cold by the time we drove home to eat it), so my only suggestion is to make sure you eat any takeout food quickly!
Always a Great meal, we had Whitefish Basket. Friendly staff. Cozy atmosphere. If you like Seafood make a stop there, you'll love it.
Fish done right. The menu has so many great choices and they all taste great. A must visit when visiting. We enjoyed every bite and wish we could have come back for more but on this trip we were just driving through. Will definitely visit again.
Although the white fish was unseasoned, the cod and walleye was good. The homemade hush puppies are exceptional. I didn't like the cole slaw at all.
My wife and I are from the Chicago area and we were visiting lovely Traverse City. I had a hankering for some whitefish chowder. Some folks like chocolate, some folks like beer. I like whitefish chowder, so sue me.
The whitefish sandwich was one of the best fish sandwiches I’ve ever had. Shrimp platter was good too but they forgot my tartar sauce. Not too bothered though as it was all still so great. Chowder was very good as well. Can’t seem to go wrong here

This is the best place for a good fish in town. The fish is the classic deep fried white fish, perch, walleye. Whether you have it as a sandwich or as stand alone fish, it doesn't get better. Great sides too (fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies)There are other options for pickier kids like chicken tenders or hamburger.
Scalawags never disappoints! Every time I'm in Traverse City, I make an attempt to stop and get some amazing Walleye. Had a small issue with the salad I ordered, I took it up to the lady at the front counter and pointed out the error. She overwhelming apologized and corrected the issue. Moral of the story, if your looking for great food and great service, stop at Scalawags!
Very tasty fish, cool decor, friendly nice staff
I had been looking forward to trying this restaurant. Boom! Just like that my hopes were dashed. The first and last time I will be stopping by. Good folks working there, the location and decor great. Food, no so great, and way overpriced for what you get. The called one piece is in all fairness one half of a piece of Whitefish and was overtly fishy tasting and mushy. I will hold out for the experiences with whitefish elsewhere.
GREAT place for fish! The set up is more in line with fast food, but the food is anything but fast food. Light flavorful breading, tasty sides, great staff! Everything was outstanding.
