My ribeye was just okay, but my wife’s filet was disappointing. It was barely ½ inch thick and maybe 4–5 inches in diameter, where have you ever seen a $50+ filet that thin? It looked like it had been pounded flat to tenderize it, or cutting in half & pounding it out to save money. No pictures online looked like what we were served, and why are you a steakhouse but don't show any steak dishes on your menu, or online.
Our server was terrific, no complaints there. But when we asked to speak with the manager, she returned with the bill and said the meals had been comped. The manager never even came to our table. That’s poor leadership in a restaurant setting.
I’m not looking for a generic “please call us” response, I’d rather see real action. Take a hard look at your menu, your kitchen practices, and especially your management. Guests shouldn’t have to be comped just to be heard.

We had reservations at 7:00 tonight. A downpour made it tricky to park. We arrived at 7:11 to be told our table was given away. Pathetic! A ten minute grace period is not typical in manhattan. Try somewhere else where hospitality is practiced!
While the impressive wine list at Slate gave us high hopes, the food was a significant letdown. We tried several dishes, and the most disappointing was the 'pizza.' The crust was thin and brittle, reminiscent of a frozen pizza rather than fresh dough. The Caesar salad was another miss, arriving as a bowl of dry, chopped iceberg lettuce with a pinch of cheese and one anchovy, but oddly, no dressing. It seems there are some major shortcuts being taken in Slate's kitchen. Unless there's a change in the head chef or management, it's hard to see things improving. On a positive note, the beverage director is doing an excellent job.

We came in last night during the very busy Cherry Fest and it was packed! There were only two servers, and we had Foster who did an amazing job! He was super polite, friendly and helpful, he was apologetic for the wait on our food and drinks, never complained about how hard he was working (you could totally see the pressure and stress) and the food was so good! We loved the options of both menus, and the Lychee martini was divine! The tenderloin salad was as well, and it was prepared perfectly! We will definitely be back!!!

We went for dinner and they were slammed because the summer holiday has started. Our server was very honest with us and in the end, we wound up getting our main course to go.
Our soup( The whiskey, corn crab chowder) and salad were delicious. When we got home and ate our main courses(The halibut, the ribeye and a gluten-free pasta dish), were even better. We so appreciate the service and the honesty from the Staff, that we did not have to wait any longer. We will definitely go back and hope for a less chaotic night in house.

Food and service is great. Management is horrible. I visited once and place was busy so I sat at the bar. After sitting for some time I was told it was a private event. Great, why not put a sign on the door? Two weeks later I went in and two other groups went in when I did. After waiting to be seated for a few minutes the little hostess from next door came over to say place was closed. Again no sign.

Delicious Halibut with curry vegetables. Highly recommend. Ask for medium temp
We were in Traverse City for our honeymoon and came to Slate for our “fancy” dinner night. The food was amazing and the service was great. The only downside is that some of the seating is too close to other people. We were right next to a family (our tables were 12 inches from eachother) that had two kids, and let’s just say one of the kids was not happy the entire time. It would’ve been a better atmosphere and more peaceful if we had more privacy. Wish we got a booth for our special night.
Had a very pleasant birthday dinner in a quiet, modern environment. The ribeye was cooked perfectly and Carter killed it as our server/bartender. We'll go back next time we're in town.

The food and service were wonderful! Our booth was well located so it helped with the date night experience. Carter was an unbelievably server. He was so willing to share insights into the food and recommend exceptional dishes. It was truly a wonderful evening.
Oh my gosh what a delight. First - our server Carter was magnificent. He was also the bar tender and our drinks were delicious. He recommended selections, and they were terrific! My husband, who is very particular about the rareness of his steaks, was delighted with his steak. My dad and I loved the tomato basil soup, my crab cakes were probably the best I've ever had, and my dad loved his salmon. The dessert pie was lick-the-plate yummy. We can't wait to go back.
The most amazing place i have ever ate at.. our waiter Carter was absolutely a delight 10/10 😊
The food was fantastic, beat only by the stellar service we received ( there was a mistake with the bill and it seems the tip was wrong. I will be returning to give our server the rest of his well earned tip). We had the place all to ourselves. We wish we lived closer to frequent more often.

Fantastic place! Good Food, cozy environment, with modest entertainment. Not a big place. It gets crowded. Food was excellent. Service had to fight the crowd and cozy setting. Great food options.
