DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS WOMAN. I would not recommend top tier to my worst enemy. Nancy was an absolute nightmare to work with. I’ve never seen someone so terrible at running a business or interacting with a customer. She was rude, lied multiple times about things we’d discussed, and then refused to make my order (it’s less than a month before the wedding) because I told her I only wanted the cake for my guests now instead of the wedding cake on top of that (because she tried to charge me $1000). So I paid $400 just for her to refuse me service. Do not trust how kind she is before you make the deposit. Once you’ve paid the deposit she shows her true colors and will only screw you over any way she can. The over pricing is one thing, but to treat me so poorly after I’ve been nothing but kind and cooperative with her is another thing. I would leave negative stars on this business if I could.
I’ve never been one to go out of my way to leave a bad review on a business but I don’t want this happening to any other bride wanting to have as little stress as possible leading up to what is supposed to be the best day of their life

Just horrible is all I can say. Nancy just may be the most unprofessional business leader in Traverse City. The groom and bride worked with her for months to arrange and order wedding cakes for 10/11/24 . A deposit of $400 was paid many months ago, and no further invoice was sent to us until 9/12/2024, telling us that payment was due on 9/11/24 and that final payment was late. We also learned at this time that she had increased the price of the cakes dramatically. The cakes ordered were kitchen cakes and a basic cake for the bride and groom to cut. No contract related to payments was ever given to us (we should have requested one). Due to her unprofessionalism, we asked her to only make the kitchen cakes as she seemed to think the bride and groom cake was "complicated", this was goi g to be a small for just the bride and groom. She refused to make this change and told us "No changes, No questions" and if we were trying to make a change we could just forfeit our $400 deposit. So, instead of dealing with an unprofessional business person, we decided to get the cakes elsewhere. Nancy also stated that we did not communicate to her, but we did, and we have all of the emails. We do not recommend "Top Tier Cakery" to anyone, as we found Nancy's business leadership to be unacceptable.

Brides this is your warning to go anywhere but here. So many kind and professional bakers in the area and Nancy is not it! Costco surely will treat you with grace and kindness over this lady.
If you do choose Nancy to do your cake please get a full quote before you pay the retainer!! She will charge you over a $1000 no matter what you pick out. She is over charging by hundreds. Call any other bakery and it’s less than half. Also, she will tell you she’s open from 10am-10pm. She is not and her bakery is in backyard.
Nancy starts off nice warm and friendly, but turns into a deceitful, conniving, and hurtful woman.
No one needs a negative experience when it comes to a wedding! We had to fire her based on personality only. What a waste of $400.
Can’t wait to see the joke of a response she will give this review. We can all see how you respond to your customers and that is very telling. Also, this is my first bad review ever given. Well deserved too!

DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY! I was told about this business from another well known business so I figured I would give it a try and I gave her a good size down payment to hold my date, we discussed details for about a year and then 3 weeks before the wedding she demanded she needed more money then what she originally "quoted me for" , so I told her I would not be going with her if she needed that much more and she refused to give the down payment back due to all the "time she put into the thought"
She never brought any ingredients / or ANYTHING!
She was always on vacation or "OFF" to where she couldn’t be reached for about 5-6 months out of that year
She was really reluctant to give me a quote and then when she finally did she want over $1,000 more than what she originally said and no design was changed or altered
She definitely over charges for her cakes

My best friend set up to have her wedding cake done here. She was told $8-10 a plate. She is feeding 100 so should be about $1,000 at the most. She called to figure out what was left to pay after already giving a $400.00 deposit and was told 1,160.00! She was not told this amount so had not planned for that. Her wedding is still weeks away and the bakery is refusing to give her the money back even though they have not started her cake yet! This is a ridiculouse way to do service and I will spread the word. Stressing brides out even more before there wedding. I would understand keeping $50 or so for your time of thinking what you are going to do but to keep all her money for nothing is another low!

Nancy was wonderful to work with and our cake was as beautiful as it was delicious. I intentionally ordered more than I needed and there were only about 10 pieces left because people were going back for seconds and thirds.

Nancy was an absolute pleasure to work with for our wedding at Castle Farms! She made our cake and dessert table. The desserts were flying off the table and our guests all raved about how yummy everything was. Nancy was accommodating to our schedules for our cake tasting since we lived out of state and had great communication. Highly recommend! (photo of cake by Sidney Bischer Photography).

Nancy was fantastic to work with for our Mackinac Island wedding! Thankfully she agreed to squeeze in our Thursday pick up! Transferring a cake and cupcakes to the Island seemed like a daunting task, however it was surprisingly easily due to Nancys exceptional packaging and tips! The cake and cupcakes were delicious. Thank you again Nancy!

Words cannot begin to express how thankful my husband and I were to have worked with Nancy for our recent wedding. Nancy was very helpful not only in helping figure out design ideas but was great at communication throughout the entire process. No matter how worried I was, Nancy was there to help reassure me. On our wedding day, I was literally awe struck when I saw our cake. It turned out better than expected and was so beautiful. Our guest could not stop saying how delicious the cake was and that is truly something you do not hear about most wedding cakes. I would highly recommend Nancy and Top Tier Cakery to anyone looking for their wedding cake. Thank you Nancy!!!! ♥️

I wasn’t going to complain or write a review about my wedding cake but seeing the nasty emails, phone calls and the comment back to my mom, I decided to write a review. Do not recommend. A cake is pretty important for your wedding day but trust me Nancy does NOT care what so ever. Also if you look at all the bad reviews on here and her response to them, it is so unprofessional, rude, and disgusting. Everyone please read the reviews and her comments it truly shows the person she is!Also, my cake looked NOTHING like all the pictures on her website. Had to have out side services the day of my wedding come and fix it!

Top Tier Bakery is NOT Top Tier. We went with Nancy at Too Tier. She seemed nice enough and her work on line looked very nice. We picked a cake out from her website we said we wanted a particular cake -a birch looking cake w flowers. Just as on her web site. Keep in mind it was to serve 25 people for a intimate wedding at Crystal Mountain. The cake arrived via taxi, when we opened it, the cake was white with orange looking birch like appearance. NO FLOWERS just a plain cake. I called Kathy and asked her where the flowers were? Her response was” you needed the florist to do this”. Really! I said I asked for what was in the picture, Nancy could care less. We paid a lot of money for a SMALL cake with not brown but a orange looking birch tree. With NO FLOWERS.I had to scramble to figure out what to do. Thankfully my florist was able to help us at the last minute. For a 500.00 cake with nothing on it is ridiculous. She also was suppose to provide a cake top box for the bride and groom which she did not provide so crystal mountain found a box.When I called Nancy she did not care, and I sent a email later and she never responded. She’s in this for the money only and doesn’t care about a momental day as my daughters wedding. Shame on you Nancy for disregarding my daughters wedding and our concerns. I may not live in Traverse City but work that way and have many friends up there. I will never refer this cake company to anyone

Nancy charged us over $1,200 for the cake for our daughters wedding and $25 for a tasting of stale cake and some frosting. My daughter wanted chocolate cake and vanilla, we had three layers including the small top for the bride and groom to save. The chocolate cake was very dry and had a cherry flavor which the guest didn’t care for. The vanilla was ok but not worth $1,200. I have had Meijer cake that tasted better and was a lot less expensive. She required a $400 deposit which was none refundable. She claims her cakes are special but we ended up trashing the chocolate cake and ran out of the vanilla because no one liked the chocolate . I have no idea why she found it necessary to but cherry flavor in the chocolate when my daughter requested plain chocolate. Would not recommend her to anyone. Felt sorry for my daughter.

We were so fortunate to be able to work with Nancy and Top Tier Cakery for our wedding this June! Due to COVID, we had to change our wedding plans and needed to book a new baker. Although she was almost booked for the weekend, she was able to squeeze us in- we will be forever grateful! Our cake was BEAUTIFUL and looked exactly like I hoped it would- not to mention it tasted INCREDIBLE! Nancy was professional, quick to respond, and incredibly easy to work with. I would highly recommend her for any occasion in need of high quality cakes!!

We had Nancy do the cake for a wedding and it was absolutely beautiful. I also had her do a groomsman cake for our rehearsal dinner for my husband as well golf themed which turned out great as well! It was delicious and beautiful I would highly recommend!
