The old fashion we ordered wasn't nothing but bourbon and a orange peel the flank steak was cold cooked properly just think it sat to long to get to us there was only 3 tables so they can't use it was busy

November 2025: From my original review until now it has been a downward slope in the quality that the kitchen puts out. I do not know if it is reduced quality or lack of care from the kitchen. Going to Barrel Back has been a thing I have done with my son since 2023 for his birthday, and with this being the third time it has also been the worst meal we have had from there. The atmosphere, view, and the wait staff are plenty nice enough. It is a shame the disappointment was the food considering it was so incredible a couple years ago. I'd like to see that quality and passion come back. Especially when over $100 is spent.
Original review, November 2023: Took my son to Boyne resort to have a fun weekend enjoying the SkyBridge and waterpark, as his birthday was on Thanksgiving this year. Other than the SkyBridge, the rest of the trip was so-so at best. Anyway, we went to Barrel Back Restaurant for dinner our last night there, and it was incredible! It really made up for the lack of enjoyment we had on our vacation, and we will definitely go back if we ever make it that way again.
I had the ribeye, he wanted a cheeseburger, and we even got wings to go. EVERYTHING we had was fantastic! Thank you for the great dinner, great service, and the view!

I haven’t even gotten my food yet. I’m aggravated because there’s a huge open space For plenty of seating and everybody that comes in, the waitress has to sit them directly next to my table. So now we are completely surrounded When there’s 50 other tables across the room where we could’ve been spread out for a private conversation. There were no reservations or planned events, I asked.

$61 for a very basic lunch for two with one soda. A very limited, uninspired menu. Anything I’ve ever really liked here gets taken off the menu never to be offered again. The amazing location can no longer make up for all that the establishment lacks.
Overall amazing place. Food is good, portions are big and the views you get over the water are stunning. Great restaurant for pub style food at lunch and views to enjoy. Service was great and friendly.

This restaurant is right on walloon lake above a cute clothing shop. Enjoy a nice evening with friends. We were there in a Friday night around 6:30. Although we had a reservation there were still tables available when we got there. By the time we left the place was packed. I love the 25 dollar specials.

Barrel back is amazing. Our server Meghan was so attentive & personable! Menu is perfect, view incomparable. We live up here and there are a lot of great dining options but this is in our top 3 for sure!

Beautiful views of Walloon Lake from almost every table. The menu is not large, but touches all the bases. The whitefish was incredible, the confit chicken was flavorful. Service was knowledgeable and efficient. Prices were reasonable. Good spot for a romantic dinner.
