DO NO GO HERE. GO TO BELMAN’S BAKERY ON 1028 CHICAGO DRIVE. Belman’s is fast, kind, and non-discriminatory. And has wayyyy better quality stuff! Their pan and tres leche cakes are out of this world truly. For Imperial however, I’m deeply disappointed by my experience at this bakery. I came in at 1:50 PM to pick up a cake that had been ordered ahead of time. I was kind, spoke Spanish, and tried to be as clear as possible about what I was there for. At first, the staff couldn’t find the order under the name I was given, which is understandable. What’s not acceptable was the attitude I received: eye rolls, scoffing, chuckling, and dismissive behavior that felt targeted and completely uncalled for.
After confirming the correct name with my mom and giving it to them, they said they recognized the order and brought the cake out. But instead of completing the pickup, they left the cake sitting out and helped several other customers who came in after me, including three who also picked up cakes. They even decorated a cake in front of me while I continued to wait.
No one communicated with me. I was repeatedly asked for the name on the order, even after giving the correct name multiple times. By the time I finally got the cake at 2:20 PM, it had been sitting out so long that decorations were sliding off in the heat. The box wasn’t enclosed properly either, and it felt like they just didn’t care.
What made this especially disappointing is that it was my first time at this bakery, and I was picking up the cake for someone who has been ordering from them for years without ever having a problem. The fact that I had such a negative experience on my very first visit makes it feel personal. As an Afro-Latina, I can’t ignore how racially charged the behavior felt. I came in kind, calm, and speaking the same language, but was treated with blatant disrespect. I expected better from a community-based business. I would not recommend this bakery and will not be returning.

Cute bakery run by Mexicans w/ various sorts of baked goods! Lots of cakes decorated beautifully and the pastry looked delicious as well! They even have labels explaining how they’re made!
I am not a huge fan of cake because they are either too dry or the frosting is too sweet but this cake is AMAZING.
