Overall experience was pretty positive. The servers were extremely nice and helpful. The Pad Thai was alright, I thought it could have used more flavor. The spice level good, but it was kind of bland. The red curry and pork belly were very good. The pork and basil dumplings had an amazing sauce but I wished the basil taste was a bit stronger.

Just had our first meal at Basil Babe. We LOVED it. Fast and quick service, clean seating area, and most importantly, delicious food. We will be back again.

I live a little bit down from basil babe so i order LOTS! its soooo good everytime!! i am a very simple eater i would say, so i usually go with either of their fried rice options that are available. The drunken basil one & the curry fried rice are some of my favorite meals since moving to ypsi. whenever me or my boyfriend go inside to pick up our food we are greeted so politely and always assisted fast. Love this place!

I really enjoyed the food at Basil Babes. We dined there last night with no expectations. As many have mentioned, it’s a bit different at this place—you pay first and then eat. We ordered the drunken noodles, Pad Thai, and curry noodles. All the dishes tasted great. I especially loved my vegan curry noodles in the yellow gravy. The prices are reasonable, and the host was very courteous.

Mediocre overpriced food which looks really good in photos. Typical of restaurants in this area but I had higher expectations from this place
Instant classic in our house, the absolute perfect comfort meal after a rough day or any day at all. The dumplings of the week are life changing. We’re working our way through the menu and none of it disappoints. I love you Basil Babe!!!

I had curry noodles and the sauce was tasty. I ordered hot and the curry noodles were not similar to non Thai hot level I've at other Thai places. I think they forgot to add the heat entirely it was that mild. Temperature of my food when it came out was lukewarm at best. The rice noodles were overcooked and mushy. Prices were lower than others in the area.
loved this place! you order and pay before you eat so slightly different then other sit down locations. we got the drunken noodles (can be made vegan), the thai red curry dumplings ( a little too crispy for my liking) and the pandan coconut pudding (personally not a fan but came with 3 little ones). took like 10-15 min for the food to arrive and you can just leave after you eat which is nice! the noodles seemed like rice paper folded up (like stacked in a way)! came out to ~$35 w tip which was pretty reasonabley priced! that was the perfect amount of food for 2 people.

Restaurantji Recommends
Visited friends in the area and ordered takeout from here as I’ve gotten recommendations from others before. I was also very excited to try the restaurant bc they offer pork belly grapow, which is my favorite Thai dish that’s not sold at most Thai restaurants I’ve been to in MI.
First impression, portions are smaller than the other restaurants I go to, so pricing is somewhat higher for the value you’d get.
We got:
Crab Rangoons - 5/10 nothing special
Sweet chili wings - 5/10, small wings, chili sauce
tasted generic, nothing crazy
Papaya salad - 3/10, no other flavor to the salad besides the garlic. Absent of the balanced sweet, citrusy and savory profile of a traditional Thai style papaya salad. Does come w a small bag of sticky rice, which was nice.
Pork belly grapow - 2/10, I had so much hope for this dish. It seemed popular with the other reviews but left me so disappointed. The pork belly pieces were so dry, almost jerky. The whole dish tasted overly sweet and missed the savory, spicy and aromatic aspects of the dish.
Pad Thai - 1/10, it was the blandest pad Thai I’ve ever gotten. Anywhere. Tasted like blanched noodles. Even with the lime squeeze.
Chili jam - 1/10, didn’t know what to expect with this dish except it being a stir fry dish. This was overly sweet as well, even more than the pork belly grapow… we got it with chicken. If you’re into sweet chicken, this is for you.
We spent $80 on takeout here, we did pick it up closer to closing time. Which isn’t an excuse for why the dishes tasted the way they did. Maybe we came on an off day but we were not happy with the money we spent. Of course, we may have different tastes than you, so go try it for yourself. Personally, would I go back? I don’t think so.

Lived in northern Thailand a couple years ago, now I travel for work. When I say I’m impressed, I mean it! I got the fried basil with egg and extra sticky rice and pandan coconut custards to go. When I picked up, I wished I had eaten in, it looked so cute. Service was fast and warm. The food was great but the little details made my day - sticky rice in a little bag like you would get if you ordered off the street, the custards were still warm in individual ceramic bowls (that I just have now?!), and the fired egg was frilly and crispy on the edges just as it should be. Thank you so much for bringing back memories and for a great dinner.
