I absolutely love this place. Great coffee. Best Chai Latte in the area! Great people who are welcoming to all. They are always coming up with new creative drinks and have fun gifts/books/products for sale. They are supportive to the community and are just a great all around addition to downtown Anoka. I love having them near my work, so I can grab a cup of coffee to get me through the day!

I’m a transgender woman and visited this shop after hearing it was a safe haven for queer and trans folks. They were very welcoming!
For once I didn’t feel like I was being constantly judged, harassed, or stared at for simply existing in a public place. The upstairs library had a nice selection of progressive & LGBTQ+ books that are harder to find at typical chain bookstores. The coffee is quite nice as well with a variety of options! The Matcha flavors are my favorite so far. They even have a small clothing rack in the coffee area where you can buy outfits! I was short on time and didn’t get a close look at the clothes but it looked like they had a pretty decent selection. I love this idea!
This is a much needed shop for Queer and Trans people living in Anoka and neighboring towns. Anoka can be pretty hit-or-miss on how LGBTQ+ folks are treated by locals and there’s unfortunately very few safe havens in this city. It’s nice to finally have a place where we can relax, feel safe, and meet other people just like us! I can’t wait to come back here!

I am the type of person to get overwhelmed in a coffee shop and a book store but for being both I was very happy with everything.
I really want to love this place. It’s a coffee shop/bookstore within walking distance of my house, sounds great! Unfortunately, their espresso is just not good. My go-to is a vanilla latte and the espresso has always been bitter with a weird aftertaste. This is pre and post Metta coffee taking over the coffee side. I want to make this a regular stop and spend money here, but they need to focus on the basics and make better coffee. A refresh of the seating and tables wouldn’t hurt either. It’s been around long enough to not be full of curb alert furniture.

The Golden Milk Latte at Avant Garden is absolutely phenomenal! The perfect blend of spices and creamy texture makes it a warm, comforting, and invigorating drink. It’s going to become my go-to order, and I love how the flavors are perfectly balanced, with just the right hint of turmeric and sweetness. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff only add to the overall experience. Very poor customer service. I just finished eating breakfast with my wife at a different establishment and she wanted to drop in to Avant to grab a coffee to go. I still had my drink from our breakfast and since we are only doing takeout I didn’t think it would be necessary to wait outside. Completely got blasted by the lady with shaved sides at the front. Imagine losing a repeat customer over something like this…
