We stopped here after visiting the nearby Spam museum. We are visiting from San Antonio, Texas. The friendly staff explained the options and a little history. We sat outside. We enjoyed the Tootsie Rolls included with our purchase
Parking: We were able to park our travel trailer for free on the street, but on busier days it might mean walking a few blocks.

No hate for the history here, but it's basically a depression-era recipe that never changed. Dry loose meat sandwiches with minimal seasoning. A little better if you add chili and cheese, I guess.
Loved this place the owners for years

For years we have gone out of our way to go to the Tendermaid whenever we are anywhere near Austin. Sadly the quality of the food and environment is not the same as it used to be. Instead of being able to eat inside the seats have open boxes of inventory sitting on them so it feels like you’re in a restaurant that is in the middle of moving. The food does not have the flavor it used to have or that other loose meat sandwich shops have. Hoping it gets back to a 5 star but last few times it has not been.
I have no idea what people see in this place, tasteless food, horrible seating, overpriced for the lack of quality. Save your time and money and go somewhere else.

Quaint little joint with delicious loose meat burgers and shakes/malts! So delish! Great people that are keeping an Austin landmark (and lots of people's memories) alive. Though you cannot eat at the counter anymore, they do have a great set of picnic tables beside the restaurant. Hoping they open up inside dining again someday! Thanks so much for another spectacular experience!
