Take your time to find something

I had no idea this place even existed and now that ive gone i kinda wish I didn't. I came here the other day for a quick bite while shopping. Walking in it was very quiet which is fine with me. I placed my order and grabbed a seat by the window. The gal that was waiting on me was very friendly and attentive. My Ceasar salad came out first, it wasnt great. The lettuce was not crisp and more on the limp side, the dressing had good flavor (not sure if its store bought or homemade). I also orded the artichoke dip, when she put the plate down i was already disappointed, the dip itself was very flavorless and the worst part was the flatbread was burnt! I'll probably never eat here again and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking to not eat in the foodcourt.

Eating at the mall, especially Mall of America, can always be a tricky experience. There's all these food court choices and none of them ever really sound good. Now that the new-ish North food court opened, it's been a little easier to find more decent options as far as where to dine at. But Nordstrom's Marketplace Cafe stays hidden away from both food courts, located inside of Nordstrom on the third level all the way in the back corner. Slightly inconvenient if you're not already shopping at Nordstrom but at the same time kind of worth it because the food isn't all that bad. I have eaten here many times when I worked at the mall because there are a lot of pros of eating here. For one, it's not fast food and so you get to eat at what is a decently nice sit down space and feels like a real restaurant. The menu also reflects that and the meals are what you wouldn't find in a normal food court. All their food is fresh and cooked to order so it takes just a tad bit longer but it's never too long. Plus it rarely gets busy, because it's hiding, so if you don't want to deal with long lines or crazy crowds, this would be a good option. I have tried almost everything on the menu, from the pastas, to salads, and pizzas, and I always enjoyed everything. The menu is sort of rotating with things changing every once in a while and a weekly special dish. The pastas are my favorite; they're flavorful and filling. The best part, however, is their Tomato Basil Soup for sure! I'm not sure how or why but it actually is the BEST tomato basil I've ever had! It's so creamy and flavorful and comes with this delicious cheesy crostini on a side...I'm obsessed. Luckily for me, they actually sell the soup base in a jar so you can make it at home too! The menu items are nice, hearty meals, for the most part, resembling home cooking and comfort food with just a slight boujie touch (you are at Nordstrom after all) and most of the menu is geared towards healthy ingredients so you're not going to hate yourself after. It's not the best restaurant in town (duh!) but it is what it is as far as mall food goes. The prices are a little higher than your typical fast food spot, again, you are at Nordstrom, and the fresh ingredients and health - oriented menu reflect those prices. I don't mind paying $15 for a good salad but maybe not $25 for a grilled chicken at the mall...so you get to decide what's worth it. Now what's a little bit different of a system is how you order. When you first walk in, you'll see a counter with the registers to your left and right in front of you a little table with the menus. Look at the menus first and decide what you want before you head to the register. You pay first here, not at the end of your meal. Once you pay at the register, you'll receive your receipt and you can proceed to seat yourself wherever you'd like. Your server will then find you, look at your receipt and get your drinks, and then bring your meal out to you. That's it. They'll check on you, of course, and refill your drinks - I've never had an issue with the service there but whenever you're done, you can leave without waiting for your check and get back to shopping your cute little butt off.

Nordstrom's has a cafe and I've been to the one in Chicago. I've been to the one at the Mall of America a few times and they have always provided great food and friendly service. I've never eaten there after they've had a busy service day. They didn't have the dishes I wanted but made up for it with the dishes they did. Me and my dining partner had the salmon with roasted vegetables and farro, a simple green salad, chicken noodle soup, and for dessert we had a chocolate cupcake and iced lemon cookie. Molly, the manager was so friendly and provided excellent service and the wait staff were equally great. This could have been an unpleasant experience but it was quite the opposite. I will definitely come back to dine there again.

Gluten Free review of Nordstrom's Cafe, which is wishy washy with there location on YELP. Is it nordstrom cafe, or marketplace cafe, I'm confused? Anyways had a meal here and was asking about gluten free items and both the chef and order taker were very knowledgeable of gluten free items and knew what to say and went over a few things in a certain dish to make sure it was gluten free. Had beautiful views of Minnesota looking out, decent service, and overall a great lunch and way to start the day, I'd go back! Tasty chicken dish, and the side salad it comes with DARN that's some good stuff.

Possibly the worst food I've had in a long time. Ordered the special of the day, Mediterranean Pizza. It was anything but Mediterranean!!! The toppings tasted stale. Was soaking in balsamic. This restaurant used to be a descent place to grab a bite while shopping. I have no idea how an upscale place like Nordstrom allows poor management, dirty & dark space, unprofessional wait staff, & very poor quality food to be associated with its name.

I prefer to eat here when I am at the Mall of America. In all honesty, it's a gem. It's quiet. You can get a table for 1 person or a table for a family of 6 with strollers. (And the kids are actually quiet, too! Maybe it's a soundproof eating area? Anyway, it's impressive.) You can review the menu before ordering at the register. The cashier is good at explaining the process. It's an interesting mix of cafe and restaurant dining. The cuisine is accessible for families or for friends on a casual outing. The cooking is spot on. The Tuscan chicken was juicy with well seasoned crispy skin and accompanied by a great combination of roasted vegetables. The pasta tends to be al dente with a thoughtful sauce. The portions are decently sized for a hungry shopper. The ingredients seem to be fresh. The service is exceptional. Very attentive. Discrete when needed. Efficient and responsive to requests and schedules. They're polite and professional. As a result, diners can actually relax while at the mall.

The salmon Niçoise salad was DELISH. The server Mona was delightful, so happy and pleasant. A very enjoyable lunch.

The restaurant is really nice and the menu sounded fresh, interesting and delicious. The process is a bit strange. You stand in line to order and pay for your food. Then you go find your seat with your book of receipts. At this point the server comes to pick up the book and deliver the drink your ordered. Then they deliver your food and then check in periodically to refill drinks. You never get a chance to tip your server unless you bring cash. I didn't have cash and since I paid initially without knowing this process I had to stiff her. The guilt I feel is eating away at me because it really was a nice place and the server was terrific. Be warned! Bring cash!
