The staff was great. The food portion was huge! The food taste was pretty good, but not overly special. I'd go back if I was in the area. A lot of people showed up and seemed to enjoy their experience as well.

He ate enchiladas supreme. I had shrimp tacos with mango sauce. Fantastic food! Excellent service. So great to find this wonderful restaurant in the shade of a Minnesota small town. Just look behind the mall!

Flavor Wins at Rancho Local Grill & Bar

While staying at Lake Byllesby Regional Park on a last-minute trip, I ordered takeout from Rancho Local Grill & Bar. Ordering online was easy, and when I arrived for pickup, the service was friendly enough, though I’ll admit I felt a few eyes on me — likely just small-town curiosity since it was clear I wasn’t a local. The restaurant itself is dark and decorated in a mix of classic Mexican style with mid-century modern touches.

I ordered the Burro Ranchero — a carnitas burrito covered in cheese sauce with refried black beans and rice — along with tortilla soup (choice of flour or corn tortillas). When I got back to camp and unpacked the food, my first impression wasn’t great. The burrito and sides had shifted to one side in the container, looking a bit mashed together, and the soup appeared to be mostly broth with finely diced vegetables.

That concern disappeared quickly after my first bite. The soup had incredible flavor, just the way I’d make it myself, with tender pulled chicken and plenty of it in a generous portion. The burrito was tasty, but the real standout was the refried beans — easily the best I’ve ever had, perfectly seasoned and delicious with the rice.

If I could give half stars, this would be a 4.5, but I’m rounding up for flavor and value. They’ve earned their strong Google rating, though I’d suggest better packaging for takeout to preserve presentation.

Delicious Burro Vegitariano. Pinto beans as a sauce in the tortilla with rice, onions, and peppers. Freshly made. Also, salsa was very good. Just the right amount of kick. Friendly service.

Had the fiesta fajita. Looked good in writing. They handed a mountain of food on a plate but more of a quantity over quality scenario. Was not impressed. Could’ve just been that specific entree but HOW DO YOU NOT HAVE DIET MTN DEW?? I asked our server for a diet mtn dew and he looked at me like as if I had just asked him to solve mathematical equation… completely stumped. He asked if regular mtn dew was ok NOT WHEN YOURE ON A DIET! Chips and queso was the highlight of my night.
