The most remarkable thing about Manhattan Beach is the absolute inconsistency in food. First time we ate here, I couldn't order any food because the kitchen was out of what I ordered and by the time the server came back to tell us, the kitchen had closed in the mid afternoon so I couldn't order anything to eat and had to watch the rest of my group eat. After a while, we decided to come back and had a few good meals with great service, but the food varied drastically (ex. large shrimp one week and MUCH smaller shrimp with different sauce the next). Tonight, I ordered a simple bacon cheeseburger (Lakeside Burger). Besides the lettuce, tomato, and onion, every single component of the burger was burnt, especially the bun and bacon. It simply wasn't edible. Our server, Gabby, was incredibly nice about it and apologetic, and sent it back to the kitchen. Another lady wearing a random hoodie came back with the new burger and threw it down on the table very rudely. This new burger was still cold and raw in the middle, and the bacon was still burnt to the point it crumbled to ashes in-between my fingers, but the burger was edible once I removed most of the bacon. Our server was embarrassed, very apologetic and her excellent service was the best part of the disappointing meal. There are some serious issues with either skill or attitude (most likely, both) from the kitchen and that random rude lady who threw the burger down. I really hope you can fix the issues your kitchen has because this always used to be a wonderful place but has been going downhill immensely. In the meantime, there are other wonderful, consistent restaurants in Crosslake to go to at least!

We didn't stay at the Lodge, we met family for amazing food!! Definitely worth the stop and the view was absolutely breathtaking as we enjoyed the sunset.

Big Trout lake is amazing!

Did not stay there, just food and drink. Good and drinks were good - a little pricey but the food was delicious.

I did not stay here. I ate dinner here. Excellent food and service. I recommend the parmesan crusted walleye and the chocolate lava cake for dessert

Aj Jones

I got the walleye meal. Delicious. Only the best at Manhattan Beach

We stay at the lodge every year and it is a great experience. The location is premium! There is a big yard and sandy protected beach. A great dining, a fire pit and free breakfast keep our family year after year. The staff are friendly and always helpful we park a boat on the dock for a week and enjoy lake life with one of the best sunsets available.

The appetizers were barely lukewarm…The long wait and inattentive service detracted from the experience. The bill was also incorrect, with an overcharge for no reason what so ever just because the bartender wanted extra money. Unbelievable..
Even though the food was decent, the overall experience was poor, especially considering the high prices also our bang bang shrimp had zero sauce. Tasted like a dried up fish. It is unlikely another visit will be happening again. Very un happy.

I typically don’t write reviews however I think my experience last Sunday warranted, taking time to share my experience for others. Well, the staff and the front of the house is friendly and the dock boys are great Sunday. Fun day has turned into an absolute failure.

One of the members of our party had a severe peanut allergy that causes her throat to close and we noted this several times for our waitress. Our food didn’t come out at the same time or even close to the same time. When we finally got all of our food, we saw that there were peanuts on the salad that had been requested no peanuts as there was an allergy. I sent the food back and we received a new salad after sometime that was about half the size of a normal portion. One of the meals that was supposed to come with fries came out with fruit when we asked for fries they took a long time and were ice cold. We were also then charged for a side of fries which we shouldn’t have been our waitress took forever to deliver drinks and often forgot about things we request requested. it wasn’t just the side of fries that was cold. It was every single order of fries at our table like they had been sitting on the counter, not even under a heat lamp.

What baffles me is that a few years ago the service was great. The food was correct and things started to seem to pick up. It seems like Manhattan is really turning back to where they started slow service poor food, quality, and long wait times. As somebody who’s worked in the food industry for a long time it seems like they have overcrowded their patio to a point. They can’t keep up with capacity. Sure staffing can be an issue, but then you have to eliminate items off of an extremely large menu you can’t support. Not only that but having cold food and incorrect allergy mistake mistakes Is unacceptable when a server a food runner at least one cook and an expediter should have caught it. That’s 4 to 5 points of quality control that just aren’t happening. It’s almost not even worth sending your food back because it’ll take him forever to get it back to you. Front of house managers should really be walking around, checking in on their tables and seeing how things are going if not, the gentleman who sat on his phone and watch the world go by should’ve jumped in and been expediting to see what happened just because you’re a manager doesn’t mean you’re above doing the work to help out your team.

Manhattan thinks it’s still the only place on the lake with live music and this is not the case. They’re not even the only place with life music on the lake that allows dogs on their patio anymore, with several options to choose from, I take anyone over Manhattan at this point.

For the price and the quality you’re better off going to the wharf which is able to keep up with her seating capacity allows dogs, and has life music. My food has also never been cold coming out.

Restaurant review only- Pretty disappointed. To start, party of two- we entered and we were standing at the front only to be ignored by two hostesses, when finally given the attention the young hostess didn’t even greet us but more so reiterated that the kitchen closed at 3:30 and we’d have to hurry up to order. We were seated and the table next to us got a server before us and were seated after us. We got our server finally, ordered- our food came out lukewarm and she checked on us once not even offering a refill.

Our server was kind and upbeat but did not make us feel taken care of. As not once were our drinks refilled or were we even checked on after the initial check. We had to ask multiple people to get our bill, our server walked out and past us many times. We even asked the assistant manager for our bill to which we still didn’t receive- to his credit, he was kind and he apologized on our way out but we were just ready to leave. I would also like to give props to the bussers, they pre bussed our table and didn’t leave a dirty plate on it.

Super sad and disappointed that our experience was as this. We love supporting local businesses and it was our anniversary dinner to which we drove out to enjoy some good food to which we were disappointed. I’m sure it was an off day but we unfortunately will not be back.

From the moment we walked through the door, this restaurant proved to be something special — and a big part of that was thanks to Crystal. We hadn’t made a reservation and arrived during the dinner rush, expecting a long wait or possibly being turned away. But Crystal greeted us with a warm smile and went above and beyond to find a solution. Within minutes, she worked her magic and managed to get us a table while being on a wait list, all while making us feel like VIPs.

Her genuine kindness, professionalism, and willingness to accommodate us without making it feel like a hassle set the tone for the entire night. It’s rare to come across someone so dedicated to making guests feel welcome and taken care of. Thanks to her, what could’ve been a stressful evening turned into one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time.

The food was phenomenal, the ambiance perfect — but it was Crystal’s exceptional service that truly made the night unforgettable. If you're lucky enough to be greeted or helped by her, you're in for a great experience. Can’t wait to return!
