Ice cream was average. The employees were rude. On their phones when paying customers were waiting, counting tips in front of us and gossiping to each other. Someone spilled ice cream and the employees saw and immediately went back on their phones while customers were stepping in it and it was attracting bugs. Just gross. Make you customers want to be there.
Everything was exactly as expected from a hot dog / ice cream truck. the ice cream was good and the hot dog was solid, fast and friendly to us, would visit again

If you just want ice cream, then ignore the bad reviews. The flavors are fun and tasty, portions are large (the single scoop is like a double!), and the service moves quick. Lemon bar flavor is my favorite

Turning down money, turns out to be a bad business practice. Along with 4th of July tiredness ?/ laziness. Serving every other customer warm food? Ice cream to the rest? Your college tip jar will most certainly not be full.

They got my order wrong. The cashier was talking to their friends in front and interrupting me while i was trying to order.
Enormous ice cream portions not expensive. Great for kids, some seating there on the patio

HAIR IN MY ICE CREAM!!!
Stopped over at 7:30 and was closed, shrugged it off and came at 7 the next day and closed again when the schedule says it should close at 8.
The pulled pork sandwich was so dry and gross. Man I regret buying it
First of all, I love this place. It's been a tradition every time I visit Duluth. I haven't been up since 2008 so I was very pleased to see it still up and running! I did see others with ice cream around Canal Park but only got around to stopping by on Sunday evening (7/10). It was closed. I checked the hours and according to Google, the Boxcar's hours were 12-8. It was barely 7:30 and I could see employees still inside. Not a huge deal, maybe they ran out of stock? Shrugged it off, figured I could grab some before I left the next day. Monday was rainy in the morning, but it did clear up and so around 12:30 I stopped by. Still closed. I went into Grandma's Saloon and asked the hosts if they knew what time the Boxcar would be open. They said the hours were 12-8, and didn't know why it wouldn't be open as it was after noon. Other people were wondering the same thing and were disappointed it was closed. A group of us still wanted ice cream and ended up giving our business to Love Creamery Canal Park. The ice cream there was good, but I would have preferred the classic Boxcar ice cream.Maybe there was an emergency and the employee working the Boxcar had to take a personal day. I'm perfectly ok with that, totally understandable. But with it closed early one day and late the next, maybe update the hours on Google or at least have a sign in the window?
