Such a wonderful staff. They’re there to help and they’re always down to chat! A great place to find the gear you need, and there is an assortment of locally made goods that make great gifts!
We love your store. Great people and lot's of local eats recommendations.
I’ve tried shopping here multiple times. More than once now I’ve felt like as a black man they seem to be confused as to why I am shopping there. Just a few days ago I went in with a Patagonia better sweater that I wanted to sell and get something that fit better. The guy I spoke with seemed a bit untrusting, like he didn’t believe I owned it. He told me that if I entered it into their inventory now it would be discounted because they were swapping to fall merch. I got that. Then in order to shop he asked me to leave my property (the sweater) on his counter before walking the store. Then when I left and picked up my sweater he looked at it to make sure it was the one I came in with. I’ve traveled the world as an adventurer. From the high Arctic to the tropical forests of the Bahamas. I don’t need my outdoor cred questioned by some local merchant. Don’t think I’ll shop there anymore.
We love the amazing deals here! Thanks for providing such a great service to the outdoor community in Duluth and surrounding area!!
Just a fantastic place, always new gear rotating through and great staff to help with whatever questions you have
We bought two raincoats for under $100.
Nils fixed a broken buckle on a child’s backpack. Turns out that clear buckles are very rare, so he just pulled one off another old backpack, this time black, and it’s good as new. Ready to pass on to another kid. Thanks, Nils!
Friendly staff and great service! They always have high quality interesting stuff cycling through. Also, Nils did a fantastic job with some repair work I needed done!
I love Great Lakes Gear Exchange! Very well organized inside with a good selection of seasonal gear! Prices are very fair (much better than the other Duluth used sporting goods store, which rhymes with schmay-smit-schmagain shorts). The staff is super friendly and helpful. AND GLGE supports Chester Bowl, which is awesome! Go here for all your outdoorsy sports needs!
Amazing environment and variety of options to meet one's needs.

What happened? This place used to have good deals on quality used outdoor gear, but the last few times I’ve been there, prices have skyrocketed! $$$$$I’m not sure what’s going, hopefully this was just an anomaly. There were a couple items that were actually cheaper online (brand new, on sale) from the original manufacturer. I checked.I’m not willing to give up on the Gear Exchange just yet…they’ve been amazing for many years…but this has really been discouraging.
We buy and sell here quite a bit. They do an excellent job fixing zippers and are very fair in pricing.
No good deals left in Duluth. Overpriced. Overstaffed. What began as an amazing community hub for Duluthians to swap outdoor stuff at reasonable prices has become just another too-expensive retail experience. They price merchandise at 50% MSRP without taking into account the condition of the product or the fact that most outdoor gear retailers offer steep discounts/sales multiple times a year. A used Filson sweater for $200? A stained, ripped Marmot hard-shell jacket for $250?? Not only that, but the employees scour the other thrift stores in the area for outdoor brands to resell at the Gear Exchange, leaving places like Savers and Goodwill depleted for the rest of us who actually need decent outdoor clothing and aren't looking to make a quick buck.Bring back the original store with the original owners. We miss you Emily and Brooke. The only reason they have 2 stars instead of 1 is because the repair service is decent.
The most fantastic customer service every single time.
Took 4 camping items that have been sitting unused for a few years. I now have a tidy bit of cash I can use for something I will use. One well run organization!
