A Missed Opportunity in a New Era: Tavern on France Falls Flat After Remodel
I wanted to like Tavern on France—truly, I did. A recent remodel hinted at fresh beginnings and bold reinvention, and in this economy, such an investment is no small feat. But while the décor may have received a facelift, the soul of the place—the food and experience—feels noticeably diminished.
Gone is the subtle charm that once paid homage to a 1920s supper club. In its place is a more generic atmosphere that seems designed less for character and more for crowds. And sadly, the food has followed suit.
I’ve dined here twice since the remodel, and both visits ended in disappointment. The menu lacks inspiration, and what is served often arrives overcooked, under-seasoned, and overpriced. The staff remains warm and accommodating—perhaps the restaurant’s strongest asset—but even excellent service can’t rescue a bland meal.
Would I return? Unlikely. However, I can understand the appeal for a younger crowd seeking sleek cocktails and a lively late-night scene. But for those hoping for a memorable dining experience anchored by flavor and flair, Tavern on France no longer delivers.
To the team at Tavern: the potential is still there. But a remodel should elevate, not erase. I hope you find your way back to what once made this place special.

The Sunday brunch use to be a wow but they have removed items. They removed custom made omelets , pancakes, waffles ,salads and the larger sized sausages and the breakfast potatoes are not the same.Will not be returning for your brunch

Solid. Happy Hour makes pricing somewhat reasonable for Edina. I like their choose your own adventure menu for Burgers and Bloodies.

They changed the menu, took off everything that made this place interesting. Now it's the same food you can get everywhere else but more expensive. Ordered a club sandwich ($18) and it was so saltly I couldn't eat it. The alfrado ($17 with no bread) sauce was so thin it was like garlic flavored water. It took over an hour to get our food. My salad was brought out with my meal. It then took another 20 minutes to get the bill to pay. Dinning room was only half full and they seemed to have plently of staff. The waitress was fine and the place was clean.

When I arrived the service was quick, but in the end I waited a long time to pay the bill, the food was not good, the chicken was very salty, I ordered 2 dishes, the starter was good, spinach, artichoke cheese with bread, but the chicken with mashed potatoes are completely tasteless and very salty..
Friendly atmosphere and staff. Service was a bit slow. The smash burger seemed under seasoned. I would have enjoyed the mashed potatoes but they were cold.

Our server was amazing . We had a little incident at our table where a glass tipped over broke right in to a shareable we had at the table. He immediately thought how to clean it up without having to interrupt a lot. He said I will be replacing this entire table along with any food just because of broken glass. He ordered another shareable to replace the one with glass and swapped the entire table with the one next to us and replaced the alcoholic drink that caused the problem lol. He dealt with the other table at a different area so it wouldn’t interfere with our gathering!! I mean that was such great service.

Good food, good service... I only had an afternoon cocktail while a coworker had lunch but I have eaten her multiple times before and although not the most affordable it is good and worth a visit in my opinion. I will be back eventually.
