This is one of my favorite coffee places in Minnesota, best in Excelsior by far, amazing house made syrups, I’m a huge fan of the floral, brown sugar, and banana syrups, but even a plane latte is amazing here. Also the best breakfast sandwich I’ve had at a coffee shop, with fresh cooked egg, not premade. They also have great paninis for lunch.
They also have great avocado toast as well, very fresh and high quality.

The place is very aesthetically pleasing & the workers were kind! However, the menu says a latte comes with a “modest” amount of cold foam and I got none.. This is disappointing as you pay upwards of nine dollars for one drink and don’t get all included/expecting. Had high hopes for this place.

The young man taking my order on Saturday wouldn’t let me finish talking before asking questions about my order. He seemed like I was inconveniencing his day and did not want me there. It was not busy at the time and it took at least 10 minutes to receive my beverage. Which ended up being only okay in flavor. He then forgot my croissant and I had to remind him about it. The staff behind the counter did not seem to be in unison, and the flow and confidence seemed uneasy and unstable. I will not return.
Great atmosphere, great coffee, great service once they take your order, which always takes a bit as the employees seem to be distracted with other activities, though $5.72 for a 16oz cup of black coffee is ridiculous. I get it, things are going up in price, but this is far beyond the average price increases at other coffee shops. My guess is this could be the rub of having a shop in downtown Excelsior - once you get past this, it is a good product.

Love this coffee shop, not only for its amazing coffee/drinks and food but I bring my very young children here often and the employees are always incredibly accommodating to me as a mom and really go above and beyond to make my life easier in small ways. It’s really nice and not something I could say about most places. A lot of heart here!

The Lobby is a true gem in Excelsior, Minnesota, a town I love and am lucky to be a neighbor of. My wife visits frequently, and we often take our four-year-old daughter, Benedetta, who absolutely loves their croissants. On our last visit, we ordered an iced cappuccino and a strawberry Italian soda for Benedetta. Both were fantastic.
Beyond the great coffee and pastries, The Lobby is more than just a coffee shop. It’s a core part of the Excelsior community. Every once in a while, I’ll meet a real estate client here to discuss home buying, selling, or investment planning. It’s the kind of place where you actually want to spend time, whether you’re working, catching up with a friend, or just enjoying the neighborhood vibe.
One of my favorite parts of The Lobby is the bar counters along the street-level windows. Sitting there alone with a coffee in hand, reading the news on my phone, knocking out some emails, and quietly people-watching reminds me of the time I was a student in London or interning in Germany. There’s something about those seats that makes me feel like I’m somewhere else entirely, not even in Minnesota. The energy of life passing by, the quiet moments to just observe and be present—it’s a small but meaningful pleasure every time.
Since The Lobby opened, we haven’t been back to Starbucks. It just feels better. It’s locally owned, thoughtfully designed, and fits the character of our town in a way that corporate chains never could. I truly appreciate the guys who put this place together. It’s a special spot that makes Excelsior even better.
If you’re in town, skip the chains and support local. You won’t regret stopping by.
